Robots leave the market less often than people claim, but when it happens the user bears the consequences: no service, no parts, no updates, and sometimes no working servers. The Robolupa database lists 11 models from 10 manufacturers with a discontinued status. That is far fewer than the 263 on-sale entries, so this list is a gallery of lessons rather than a market statistic.
The reasons fall into two groups. In four cases the robot was replaced by a successor: the Figure 01 and Figure 02 by later generations from the same maker (Figure AI), the Tesla Optimus Gen 1 by Gen 2, and the Fourier GR-1 by the GR-2 and GR-3. That is the classic humanoid development cycle: versions are shown, tested with first customers and quickly set aside. By the database description, the Figure 02, for instance, worked for about 11 months at BMW's Spartanburg plant.
The second group is business-driven withdrawals, and these have harsher consequences. Moxie, a companion robot for children, stopped working when its maker Embodied collapsed and shut down its servers on 30 January 2025; units without previously installed local firmware became useless, with no refund. The LEGO Education SPIKE Prime ended sales on 30 June 2026. Pepper is, per the database, a reception robot discontinued in 2024 after about 27,000 units, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Wakamaru was sold from 2005 but only rented from 2008. For the Sarcos Guardian XO, production ended after the company was rebranded as Palladyne AI.
Category split: 4 humanoids, 2 each of educational and service robots, and 1 each of exoskeleton, quadruped and mobile AMR — the recently added Zebra Fetch CartConnect 100 from Fetch Robotics (Zebra Technologies). Only 3 of the 11 entries have a price (n = 3, from USD 400 to USD 14,300), and two are flagged as available in Poland: the LEGO set and the entry from the Polish company MAB Robotics (Honey Badger 4.0), whose status is worth confirming directly with the manufacturer. For the other nine we have no confirmed availability in the country.
The list has a practical side. When buying a robot that depends on the manufacturer's cloud, check what happens to its functions after the service closes — we cover data and servers more broadly in “Data Security: Robots with Cameras and the GDPR”. For pricier models, ask about the support period and parts availability, and judge cost over the whole lifecycle (“Humanoid Robot TCO: How to Calculate Total Cost”). For robots retired in favour of successors, see Figure 01, Tesla Optimus Gen 1 and Moxie; Tesla's progress is covered in “Tesla Optimus: What We Actually Know (as of September 2026)”.

Frequently asked questions
How many robots in the database are discontinued?
11 entries from 10 manufacturers have a discontinued status. These are models whose maker ended sales or production, or replaced them with a successor.
Why do manufacturers discontinue robots?
By the database descriptions: four models were replaced by successors, and in most of the other cases the reasons were business decisions, including a company collapse (Moxie), a change of profile (Sarcos) and the end of sales (LEGO SPIKE Prime).
What happens to a robot after it is discontinued?
It depends on the manufacturer: the robot may keep working locally, but cloud services, updates and parts are sometimes switched off, as with Moxie. Check the support period before buying.
Can I buy discontinued robots in Poland?
Two entries are flagged as available in Poland (the LEGO SPIKE Prime set and the Honey Badger 4.0 from MAB Robotics), but availability must be confirmed with a shop or the manufacturer.
Where this list comes from
The collection is generated from the Robolupa catalogue by a fixed criterion described in the introduction and changes with the data. Prices in zloty come from Polish shops or are converted from foreign currencies (marked with an asterisk). How data are collected and checked is described on the page Methodology.
