Figure 02, unveiled in August 2024, is the second-generation humanoid from Figure AI and the company's best-documented model in our catalog. Its fourth-generation hands have 16 degrees of freedom per hand and a grip strength close to a human's, and the 2.25 kWh battery in the torso gives 50% more energy than in Figure 01. The robot is fitted with cameras and microphones that support voice interaction.
For almost 11 months, from the second quarter of 2024 to about November 2025, Figure 02 worked in the body shop of the BMW plant in Spartanburg. According to the sources cited, it logged about 1,250 hours of work, handled more than 90,000 parts and contributed to the production of over 30,000 units of the X3 model.
Despite these results, its status in the data is "retired": the model gave way to Figure 03 in the same pilot as production scaled up. Like its predecessor, Figure 02 was never commercially sold or offered in Poland; it operated solely within a B2B pilot with BMW.
Against competitors such as Tesla Optimus or Apptronik Apollo, it stands out for a rare transparency about operating results from a real production line, rather than promotional material alone.

Running and deployment costs
Figure 02 had no public price: our catalog notes "not sold publicly; B2B pilot projects only (BMW)". So we give no amount.
We can point to a direction, though: the successor, the Figure 03, also has no sale price, but in May 2026 Figure's CEO announced home leasing of the Figure 03 for USD 600 a month (roughly PLN 2,330 (≈ EUR 535 at NBP rate 4.3641 of 21 October 2026)). That announcement concerns the home version and is not an offer for Polish companies.
What goes into the calculation for a comparable humanoid in a factory? Purchase or lease, integration with the workstation, energy (the 2.25 kWh battery is a capacity that has to be recharged regularly), service, insurance and operator training. As a rough estimate, a sensible budget including deployment costs always exceeds the price of the robot alone, so use the TCO calculator in “Humanoid Robot TCO: How to Calculate Total Cost” and check the price overview in “How Much Does a Humanoid Robot Cost in 2026”.

Applications
What it's for
Figure 02 is the only Figure AI humanoid that has left hard numbers from a real factory floor. For almost a year, from the second quarter of 2024 to around November 2025, it worked in the BMW plant in Spartanburg on body construction. According to BMW sources, it logged about 1,250 hours of work, handled more than 90,000 parts and contributed to the production of more than 30,000 BMW X3s.
The design fits the job: fourth-generation hands with 16 degrees of freedom per hand and a grip strength close to a human's, and a 2.25 kWh torso battery that gives 50% more energy than the Figure 01. Cameras and microphones support voice interaction. The model had a built-in VLA model (see “VLA Models: How AI Controls Humanoid Robots in 2026”), a network that combines vision, language and action.
Applications in the data: body construction in a factory, and that is the only thing documented. Internal logistics (warehouses) is a natural extension, but we have no confirmed deployments for the Figure 02. The model is retired, so we are talking about history; its successor, the Figure 03, took over the role in the same pilot. General background is in “Humanoid Robots in Factories 2026”.
Typical applications
Who it's for
Yes: for analysts, journalists and automotive companies that want to see what a humanoid has actually achieved in series production; 1,250 hours and 90,000 parts are rare, concrete data. Yes for strategy departments writing a business case for a pilot and looking for a comparison with a real deployment.
No: for anyone looking for a robot to buy. Figure 02 was never sold commercially; it worked only in a B2B pilot with BMW and is now retired. Not for Polish plants either: the model wasn't and isn't available here. And not for those who want a full specification: the data doesn't include its height, weight, payload or runtime. If you're looking for something you can order, even in a pilot, look at the Figure 03 or at robots available in Poland, such as the Unitree H2.
Deployments
There is one confirmed deployment, but a well-documented one: BMW Group, Spartanburg plant in the USA, body construction, from Q2 2024 to about November 2025. According to BMW sources: about 1,250 hours of work, more than 90,000 parts, and support for the production of more than 30,000 BMW X3 cars. A BMW press release speaks of a successful test of humanoids at the plant.
In the category, Mercedes-Benz with the Apptronik Apollo and Hyundai with the Boston Dynamics Atlas are also running pilots. A summary is in “Humanoid Robots in Factories 2026”.
Comparison
For comparison with real deployments, or as successors:
Figure 03: the direct successor: 172 cm, 61 kg, 35 DOF, 20 kg payload, its own Helix model; the same BMW plant, but with further scaling of production.
Apptronik Apollo: 71 degrees of freedom and pilots at Mercedes-Benz, GXO Logistics and Jabil; Apptronik raised a USD 520 million round in February 2026.
Atlas: 190 cm, 90 kg, 50 kg payload; 2026 production is reserved for Hyundai and Google DeepMind.
Agility Digit: a humanoid for logistics, proven in warehouses; less versatile in hand manipulation.
Tesla Optimus Gen 2: 173 cm, 57 kg, 11-DOF hands, not for sale and replaced by Gen 3; likewise a promise without a confirmed external deployment.

History
August 2024: Figure AI unveils the Figure 02 with hands of near-human grip strength and a built-in VLA model, a year after the debut of the Figure 01 and half a year after the USD 675 million round at a USD 2.6 billion valuation. The robot goes to BMW in Spartanburg (second quarter of 2024 according to the pilot data) and works there until about November 2025.
In May 2025 word emerges that Figure 02 is supporting the production of more than 30,000 vehicles; in July 2026 BMW and Figure AI sum up that the Figure 02 and 03 supported production of more than 30,000 BMW X3s over ten months. From October 2025 the baton passes to the Figure 03. In the background, the company (Figure AI) closes a Series C round of over USD 1 billion at a USD 39 billion valuation in 2025.
