Manufacturer
LEGO Education (Billund): the SPIKE Prime set was withdrawn from sale on June 30, 2026.
LEGO Education, the educational division of the LEGO Group, based in Billund, Denmark, supplies STEM robotics sets to schools: SPIKE Prime, SPIKE Essential and the older Mindstorms and WeDo. The only model described here, the SPIKE Prime set (no. 45678), was withdrawn from sale on June 30, 2026, according to the manufacturer's own product page.
That sets LEGO Education apart from classic educational competitors such as VEX Robotics, which keep their platforms going without sudden withdrawals. The available materials give neither a founding year for the division nor financial data; LEGO Education is part of the privately held Danish LEGO Group, which is not listed on any stock exchange.
For the Polish education market, the open question is the successor to SPIKE Prime, which the manufacturer has not yet announced in the sources available. Segment: school education, ages 10 and up. It is worth following the manufacturer's official announcements on this.
LEGO Education is the educational division of the Danish LEGO group, based in Billund. It supplies schools with kits for learning robotics and programming within STEM subjects: SPIKE Prime, SPIKE Essential and older platforms, namely Mindstorms and WeDo. Our sources give no founding year for the division and no financial data, because LEGO Education is part of the privately held LEGO Group, which is not listed on any stock exchange. The most important news of recent months concerns the flagship kit: according to the manufacturer's own page, SPIKE Prime, number 45678, was withdrawn from sale on 30 June 2026. The kit reached the market in January 2020 and was a popular tool for learning robotics in school classrooms. The LEGO name makes it easier for teachers to justify a purchase to the school management, but that is our assessment, not data from the sources. The available sources do not announce what is to replace it, so we do not speculate on what the next generation will look like. The wider background on why schools need such kits is given in “Educational Robots for Schools and Universities”. The category itself is educational robots, and the typical place of work is described in “Schools”.
In the catalogue LEGO Education is represented by one model: LEGO Education SPIKE Prime Set, that is set 45678 with 528 pieces, intended mainly for grades 6 to 8 and for STEM and coding courses, with a lower age limit of 10 years. The manufacturer's recommended price was 399.95 dollars, 514.99 euros or 474.99 pounds. In Poland the set now appears mainly in shops selling remaining stock, among them alttab.pl and aramisklep.pl, and the prices observed fall between 2,199 and 2,499 zloty. The status "retired" means the end of availability of new units, not a loss of educational value for those a school already owns. By comparison, the open platform SO-101 requires its own assembly and calibration, but does not depend on one company's decision to withdraw a product. How to start learning, whichever kit is chosen, is shown in “How to Start Learning Robotics in Poland”. SPIKE Essential, Mindstorms and WeDo are therefore mentioned only as part of the range, without assessment. A price from remaining stock need not match the price at which a school would have bought the set before the withdrawal.
In robotics education LEGO Education has a huge advantage in brand recognition, and its kits are closed solutions with a ready ecosystem of lessons and teaching support. That approach differs from open platforms such as SO-101 from Hugging Face. Among other educational offerings in the catalogue are the humanoid NAO from Aldebaran and the small Ozobot Evo from Ozobot, and in the world of school kits they are often set against the competing VEX Robotics, which keeps its platforms continuous without sudden withdrawals. This last remark concerns the market in general, not data from our catalogue. A sudden withdrawal of a flagship kit is a risk for schools that have built a course around it. We have no market share figures, so we do not state them. The basic terms of the field are explained in “Robotics Glossary: 65 Terms with Polish Equivalents”. It is also worth asking the supplier about the availability of parts and lesson materials several years ahead before building a whole course on a single kit.
In Poland the SPIKE Prime set appears in shop offers, and after the manufacturer's withdrawal what is left is mainly remaining stock. Alttab.pl and aramisklep.pl appear, with prices from 2,254 to 2,499 zloty. We found no announcement of a Polish successor and no official information on how the availability of parts and lesson materials will look after the withdrawal. Schools planning purchases should therefore check with a local distributor whether stock still exists, and ask about a successor in the current LEGO Education range. Other options for universities are described in “Universities and research”.
SPIKE Prime was a solid, well-known learning tool, but its withdrawal changes the calculation for schools. The strong side is a ready ecosystem of lessons and a known brand. The weak side is the lack of a successor, prices from remaining stock and dependence on one manufacturer. Schools that already own kits lose nothing educationally, but new purchases are better planned after checking the offer and any successor.
