Summary

Unveiled in July 2012 by artist Kogoro Kurata and software engineer Wataru Yoshizaki under the name Suidobashi Heavy Industry, Kuratas is a rideable mech from Tokyo. Wikipedia gives 4 m in height and 4,500 kg; TechCrunch quoted 13 ft and 6.5 tons for the duel configuration.

The four-wheeled exoskeleton with 30 joints moves at up to 10 km/h but cannot walk or turn by itself, and the pilot sits in a cockpit running Yoshizaki’s control software. Its weapons are showpieces: a twin BB gatling firing 6,000 rounds per minute, a water-bottle launcher and a grabbing hand called ‘iron crow’. The single unit was offered for sale at about 1.35 million USD as of 25 April 2013.

On 17 October 2017 Kuratas lost the scripted Giant Robot Duel to the far heavier, chainsaw-equipped Eagle Prime. The project is considered finished and the mech does not compete. The catalogue photo comes from Wikimedia Commons under CC BY 2.0 (author OiMax).
