Among Unitree's humanoids, the R1 series occupies the lowest price shelf, and the standard R1 is its middle variant. The robot is 123 cm tall, weighs 29 kg and, depending on the source, has from 20 to 26 degrees of freedom. The R1 can perform dynamic moves, including sideways flips (cartwheels), which makes it more a demonstration and development platform than a ready-made household device.
Sensing includes cameras and a microphone for speech and image processing, and the software is based on Unitree's own multimodal stack. Some of the data comes from external sources (Interesting Engineering, Automate.org) and has not been verified directly with the manufacturer. Sales through Unitree Polska or other domestic shops have not been confirmed.
The model is aimed at developers, research centers and hobbyists who want a cheap entry into humanoid robotics, not at industrial uses requiring payload or certified durability.

Price and availability in Poland
Lowest price at a Polish shop (deltarobots.com, 2026-09-28); the manufacturer's USD price (USD 4,900, before tax and duty) is lower because it excludes VAT, customs duty and the seller's margin. All variants (R1 Air, R1 Standard, R1 EDU) are currently listed uniformly at USD 4,900 on shop.unitree.com (as of 28 Sep 2026), so the price tiering is no longer visible. Previously: R1 Air from USD 4,900, R1 Standard USD 5,900, R1 EDU USD 10,500.
Running and deployment costs
Purchase: the manufacturer's store currently shows USD 4,900 for all R1 variants (as of 28 Sep 2026), which at a rate of 3.8762 is about PLN 19,000 (≈ EUR 4,350). Earlier the prices were: Air USD 4,900, Standard USD 5,900 (about PLN 22,900 (≈ EUR 5,240)), EDU USD 10,500. On top of that come shipping and customs duty; reseller sources give USD 300–1,200 for shipping the Air variant. Polish offers recorded: PLN 41,900 (≈ EUR 9,580) (deltarobots.com), PLN 78,500 (≈ EUR 17,960) (x-kom.pl) and PLN 140,900 (≈ EUR 32,230) for the “Edu Professional D” variant (x-kom.pl). That is a multiple of the manufacturer's price; we do not know all the reasons (margins, customs duty, VAT, configuration), so compare offers and ask about the scope of delivery. As an estimate, the real cost in Poland is higher than in the Unitree store.
Operation: as an estimate, a few hundred zloty per year for accessories and repairs, but the robot falls over, so a stock of spare parts is a sensible cost.
Training: for a teacher with programming basics, as an estimate, a few days.

Applications
What it's for
The Unitree R1 stands 123 cm, weighs 29 kg and has 20 to 26 degrees of freedom (“Degrees of Freedom (DOF) in Humanoid Robots”), depending on source and variant. It was not built for work, but so that humanoid robotics would stop being reserved for laboratories with million-dollar budgets. Sensing is cameras and a microphone for speech and image processing, and the software is based on Unitree's own multimodal stack.
Applications. “Schools”: a robotics club in a high school or technical school, a final-exam project, a programming lab. universities: first classes on humanoids, student science circles, engineering theses without spending hundreds of thousands of zloty. events: a robot performing dynamic moves draws a crowd, and the low price means it can be bought without worrying about a cost estimate. homes: enthusiast hobbyists who want to experiment with a humanoid, but they should not expect a household helper, since the R1 has no documented payload or autonomy for practical tasks.
What not to do: do not buy the R1 for physical work, for unsupervised customer service, or for uses that require certification. It is a platform for learning and showing off. If you plan to code your own behaviors, check which variant (Air, Standard, EDU) gives you access to the SDK, because the point of the purchase depends on it.
Typical applications
Who it's for
Yes: students, teachers and hobbyists who want to get into humanoid robotics cheaply. Yes for clubs and science circles, where one robot per group is enough and the cost is many times lower than the G1. Yes for content creators and marketers who need a show humanoid without an R&D budget.
No: a company looking for a robot to do work, since payload and runtime have not been confirmed and the design has no industrial certifications (“Robot Safety Standards”). Not for research teams with manipulation requirements, since it lacks hands with a sense of touch; for those there is Unitree G1 EDU. Not for those who expect certainty about the specification: the number of degrees of freedom varies (20–26), and some of the data comes from external reviews, not from the manufacturer. Not for users who want to buy in a Polish shop “for five thousand dollars”: Polish offers are clearly more expensive.
Deployments
Worldwide the R1 appears in the context of education, hobby use and shows; we have no described commercial deployments. In the humanoid robots category there are models being introduced into plants, but the R1 is not among them; for educational uses of robots see “Educational Robots for Schools and Universities”.
Comparison
Unitree R1 Air: the cheapest variant of the series (25 kg, 20 degrees of freedom), when all you care about is price and show.
Unitree R1 EDU: the programmable variant, for schools and universities that want to code their own behaviors.
Unitree G1: larger (132 cm, 35 kg), but more than twice as expensive and without an SDK; it makes sense when the robot's scale matters for the impression.
Noetix N2: 118 cm, about 30 kg, 18 degrees of freedom and about 5 kg payload, USD 5,500–8,400 per our catalog; a cheaper alternative from another Chinese manufacturer.
Noetix Bumi: a child-sized humanoid, 94 cm/12 kg, for about USD 1,400, advertised as the cheapest on the market; for those who want to start even cheaper and smaller.

History
The R1 went on sale in August 2025 as Unitree's cheapest full-size humanoid, then priced at about USD 5,900, and September reports confirmed the start of sales. Earlier the company had shown the H1 (2023) and the G1 (on sale from August 2024). The R1's price fell in the following months: in the manufacturer's store all variants were listed uniformly at USD 4,900. The next stage was the H2 (October 2025) and Unitree's stock-market debut in Shanghai in August 2026. The R1 is part of a larger family that we describe in “Unitree H1, G1, R1 and H2”; the manufacturer is covered in Unitree Robotics. Competition among cheap humanoids is growing: see “Chinese Humanoid Robots” and “Humanoid Robot Market Forecasts”.
