Unitree Robotics has sold the Unitree G1 since August 2024, and showed the younger Unitree R1 in August 2025 and put it on sale in September. The price gap is so wide that two questions suggest themselves: does the more expensive G1 give you anything the R1 lacks, and is the cheaper R1 still a tool or already a toy? We answer from the technical data and prices in Polish shops. The whole Unitree family is sorted out in a separate piece, “Unitree H1, G1, R1 and H2”.

Design and specifications

The R1 is smaller and lighter: 123 cm tall and about 29 kg, against 132 cm and 35 kg for the G1. It does have more degrees of freedom (DOF), 26 against 23 on the G1 Standard, although sources quote anywhere from 20 to 26 for the R1 depending on the variant. Unitree presents it as a robot capable of dynamic moves, including a sideways flip. The R1’s sensing consists of cameras and a microphone, and its software rests on the manufacturer’s own multimodal stack. The G1 has a 3D LiDAR and an RGB-D depth camera, an 8-core processor, a 9000 mAh battery with fast hot-swapping and about 2 hours of runtime. Its payload is 2 kg, walking speed about 2 m/s and knee torque up to 90 N·m. For the R1 the manufacturer states no payload, speed or battery capacity, so that part of the comparison stays open. How to read such gaps is explained in “How to Read a Robot Datasheet”, and the difference between joint count and motion quality in “Degrees of Freedom (DOF) in Humanoid Robots”.

Price and availability in Poland

The base G1 costs USD 13,500 net, or about PLN 52,300 (≈ EUR 11,960) at 3.8762 zloty to the dollar. In the official Unitree shop all R1 variants (Air, Standard, EDU) were listed at the end of September 2026 uniformly at USD 4,900, about PLN 19,000 (≈ EUR 4,350); before that the price list ran USD 4,900, 5,900 and 10,500. In dollars the R1 is thus almost 2.8 times cheaper. In Polish shops the gap narrows: the R1 cost PLN 41,900 (≈ EUR 9,580) at Delta Robots, while the G1 Basic cost PLN 79,900 (≈ EUR 18,280) there and PLN 99,000 (≈ EUR 22,650) at Botland and in the x-kom range. An older x-kom entry priced the basic R1 at PLN 46,000 (≈ EUR 10,520) and the R1 EDU Professional in configuration G at PLN 78,500 (≈ EUR 17,960) (other EDU configurations reached PLN 130,000–140,900 (≈ EUR 29,740–32,230)). The spread is wide, so before buying check which variant you are getting and with what SDK scope. These are listing prices from late September 2026. Total costs are worked out in “Humanoid Robot TCO: How to Calculate Total Cost”, and a market overview is in “How Much Does a Humanoid Robot Cost in 2026”.

Which model for which job

The R1 lands in the hands of people who learn by trial and error: in a school or universities setting, where an affordable humanoid for motion-programming classes matters, and at events, where a striking show counts for more than payload. It is neither a household nor an industrial device: with no declared payload, a factory is out. The G1 makes sense where known endurance and LiDAR are needed, for example in a laboratory testing navigation, and with the EDU variant added, in research on your own algorithms. An overview of teaching hardware is in “Educational Robots for Schools and Universities”.

Conclusion

The R1 is the younger project in Unitree's portfolio (unveiled in August 2025). It is 6 kg lighter than the G1 (29 kg versus 35 kg) and 9 cm shorter, yet has more degrees of freedom: 26 against the G1's 23. The biggest difference is price. The R1 Standard costs USD 5,900 (about PLN 22,870 (≈ EUR 5,230)), less than half the G1's USD 13,500 (about PLN 52,329 (≈ EUR 11,970)), and the R1 Air variant drops as low as USD 4,900. The R1 clearly targets hobbyists, developers and education; Unitree advertised it as the cheapest humanoid on the market, among other things able to perform a somersault. The G1 has a longer track record (on sale since August 2024) and a wider ecosystem of research accessories. For someone who wants a first encounter with a humanoid platform on a limited budget, the R1 is the more rational starting point. The G1 is the better fit where established documentation and community matter.

A person or team on a tight budget who wants a first encounter with a humanoid platform should start with the R1: it costs less, weighs less and has more degrees of freedom. Keep the gaps in the specification in mind, and the fact that part of the data does not come from the manufacturer. Choose the G1 if you need LiDAR, a documented runtime and a robot that has been on the market a year longer. Anyone who wants to write their own code should compare the R1 EDU with the G1 EDU, since the price difference between them is huge (see Unitree G1 EDU). A university with a serious research project should also consider larger designs such as the Unitree H2.

Frequently asked questions

How does the R1 differ from the G1 on price?

The R1 Standard costs USD 5,900 and the R1 Air starts at USD 4,900. The G1 Standard is USD 13,500, so the R1 is a markedly cheaper way into the segment.

Which model has more degrees of freedom?

The R1 has 26 degrees of freedom; the G1 Standard has 23.

Is the R1 available through Polish distributors?

Unitree Polska (unitreepolska.pl) has no confirmed listing covering the R1, so availability has to be checked with a direct inquiry.

How much does the Unitree R1 cost compared with the G1?

In the Unitree shop the R1 is priced at USD 4,900 and the G1 at USD 13,500. In Poland the R1 was listed at PLN 41,900 (≈ EUR 9,580) (Delta Robots) and the G1 Basic at PLN 79,900–99,000 (≈ EUR 18,280–22,650).

Which robot has more degrees of freedom?

The R1 has 26 DOF (sources say 20–26 depending on variant); the G1 Standard has 23.

Can I buy the R1 in Poland?

Yes. In late September 2026 the R1 was offered by Delta Robots and x-kom, among others (EDU versions).

Is the R1 the successor to the G1?

Nothing announced says so. Unitree sells both in parallel: the R1 is smaller and cheaper, the G1 has LiDAR and a documented runtime.
