Abi

Companionship rather than lifting is what Abi is built for. Created in Melbourne by Andromeda Robotics, the humanoid works in aged-care homes and assisted-living facilities in Australia, among them mecwacare, Medical & Aged Care Group and Allity, part of Bolton Clarke; a waitlist is open in the United States. Abi stands about 120 cm tall, a figure that comes from an Allity statement in 2023.

The robot gestures with its head, eyes and arms, recognises faces and emotions, remembers earlier conversations and speaks 90 languages. Conversation is driven by a large language model, which in 2023 was GPT-4. In care settings Abi chats with residents, leads group activities and reminds people of their daily schedule.

Andromeda sells it as a subscription with contract pricing that depends on the number of units, so the catalogue lists price on request. Weight, degrees of freedom, locomotion, sensors and runtime are not published by the maker. A successor called Genesis Abi, announced in September 2025, is described as fully autonomous.

Among established social robots the Pepper plays a comparable role, although Abi was designed specifically for older people. The company raised an AU$23 million Series A in 2025 to expand these deployments.
