Summary

Spot is the longest-selling quadruped robot on the market - on offer since 2020 and still the reference point for the whole category. It weighs 33.8 kg, stands 61 cm tall and moves at up to 1.6 m/s, carrying up to 14 kg of payload on a swappable mounting plate. A 564 Wh battery lasts about 90 minutes, and a full charge takes an hour.

An IP54 enclosure and an operating range of -20°C to 55°C make it robust enough for construction sites and mines - typical environments for its uses: industrial inspection, documenting construction progress, security patrols. The price is not published on the manufacturer's site; sales are by inquiry under an enterprise model.

External sources cite USD 74,500 from mid-2020, which at today's exchange rate would be about PLN 288,800 (≈ EUR 66,180) - treat the figure as indicative, not a current price list. Compared with Unitree's cheaper quadrupeds, Spot is more expensive but has a longer record of industrial deployments and a broader software ecosystem.

It is a robot for industrial and energy companies that need a proven inspection platform, not for users seeking the lowest entry price.

Price and availability in Poland

approx. 288,800 PLN* (≈ EUR 66,180) converted from 74,500 USD, NBP rate 3.8762, as of 1 October 2026 · Updated: June 2020 · Source (robotsourced.com)

No published price at bostondynamics.com/products/spot/; sold on request under an Enterprise agreement.

Running and deployment costs

Spot's price is not published on the manufacturer's site; sales are by inquiry. An external source gives USD 74,500 from mid-2020, which our conversion puts at about PLN 288,777 (≈ EUR 66,170). That is an indicative figure from several years ago, not a price list. A real offer depends on configuration and the Enterprise agreement.

On top of the robot's price comes the payload - a scanner, thermal camera or gas sensor; roughly, this can be a significant addition, but we have no hard data on it. Extra batteries and a charging station will be needed too, because 90 minutes of runtime means you need spares for a full shift.

Operation: service, software updates and licenses. We have no amounts, so ask the supplier about a support package. Operator training is roughly a few days, and the biggest cost is often the team's time spent laying out inspection routes.

Whether an inspection robot qualifies is for an advisor to decide.

Applications

What it's for

Spot is a four-legged robot for repeatable inspections in places where a person walking is expensive, dangerous or simply dull. It climbs stairs and walks uneven ground, carrying a swappable mounting plate with sensors on its back.

According to the data, the robot weighs 33.8 kg, stands 61 cm tall, has 12 degrees of freedom, moves at up to 1.6 m/s and carries up to 14 kg on a swappable plate. An IP54 enclosure and an operating range of -20°C to 55°C let it enter a construction site or a mine. The 564 Wh battery gives about 90 minutes of work, and a full charge takes an hour.

Industry and energy: rounds with a camera, reading gauges, detecting changes across successive passes of the same route. Construction: weekly documentation of progress, same route, same shot, compared against the model. Security: patrolling facilities without a permanent human presence. Mining: every remote inspection saves hours of work in harsh conditions.

The mounting plate is the interesting part. You bolt a scanner, a thermal camera or a gas sensor to the robot, and it carries it wherever you want. The robot itself handles gait and obstacle avoidance; you decide on the payload.

What will it not do? It will not replace a transport robot (14 kg and an hour and a half of battery is not logistics) and it will not climb a ladder. For longer shifts it needs a charging station and a route plan.

Typical applications

  • Industrial inspection
  • Construction site documentation
  • Security/guarding

Who it's for

Worth considering for: industrial, energy and mining companies that need a proven inspection platform and can pay for the software ecosystem and the deployment track record. Also large construction contractors who want to scan a site along the same route once a week. Spot fits organizations where the robot is meant to be a tool of the safety or maintenance team, not a toy of the innovation department.

Probably not for: laboratories and schools looking for the lowest entry threshold. At a price on the order of PLN 288,777 (≈ EUR 66,170), cheaper quadrupeds such as Unitree Go2 deliver a great deal for a fraction of the money. Do not choose it either if you need a payload above 14 kg or runtime longer than about an hour and a half between charges. In that case look at heavier designs such as Unitree B2.

Be careful also if a price list matters to you: Boston Dynamics does not publish a price, and sales are by inquiry under the Enterprise model. Plan for a sales conversation, not a shopping-cart purchase.

Deployments

We have no Spot deployments attributed to specific companies, so we do not name any. What is known is the kind of environment in which the robot is typically used: industrial inspection, documenting construction progress and security patrols, in energy, mining and construction.

No confirmed deployments, and the model has no confirmed distributor here. If you are considering a purchase, ask the manufacturer about partners in the region and about references from similar plants. In the quadruped category, the Polish accent is MAB Robotics Honey Badger 4.0, a robot from the Poznań company MAB Robotics, sold directly in Poland.

Comparison

The alternatives differ in power, sensing and price.

Unitree B2 - 40 kg payload versus 14 kg, 6.0 m/s speed and five hours of work thanks to a 2250 Wh battery. Heavier (60 kg), with a 3D LiDAR; choose it if specs matter more than the brand.

Unitree Go2 - the Air version starts at about USD 1,600, roughly 45 times cheaper than Spot. It is lighter and faster, but it is educational equipment, not industrial.

Ghost Robotics Vision 60 - a design from the defense market, with dual-antenna RTK-GPS, priced at about USD 150,000. You prefer it if the job is border security.

ANYbotics ANYmal D - a thermal camera from -40 to 550°C, 20x zoom and an ultrasonic microphone. Slower (0.75 m/s), geared toward measurement accuracy. When choosing, look at three things: payload, runtime and who will provide service in your region. General rules for comparing are described in “How to Read a Robot Datasheet”.

History

Boston Dynamics was founded in 1992 in Waltham, Massachusetts, and today belongs to Hyundai. Spot was presented in 2019 and has been on sale since 2020, which by our catalog makes it the longest-selling quadruped robot on the market. The first known price, from mid-2020, was USD 74,500.

Spot's story is worth setting against the rest of the family. In April 2024 the company retired the hydraulic version of Atlas after 11 years and showed a fully electric humanoid, which we cover at Atlas. In January 2026 the production version of Atlas entered production, and in February 2026 CEO Robert Playter left the company after 32 years. In August 2026 Hyundai confirmed plans to produce 30,000 Atlas units a year by 2028. Against that backdrop Spot remains a calm, proven product.
