Atlas (hydraulisch, 2013-2024)
For eleven years the hydraulic Atlas was the best-known humanoid in the world, even though it was never for sale. Boston Dynamics unveiled it on 11 July 2013 as the platform for the DARPA Robotics Challenge, in which teams tackled search-and-rescue tasks from 2013 to 2015.

The first version was tethered; from 2016 the robot carried its own battery while keeping hydraulic actuators.
The 2016 generation stood 150 cm and weighed 80 kg, the 2021 version 85 kg. Sources give 28 degrees of freedom, although a 2021 description lists 20; the discrepancy most likely reflects different generations. The 2021 version ran on three on-board computers. Atlas became famous for parkour and backflip videos that showed what whole-body control could achieve on a hydraulic machine.
On 16 April 2024 Boston Dynamics retired the hydraulic Atlas in favour of its electric successor, the Atlas. Sensors, runtime and lifting capacity were never officially specified, and there was no price. The 2013 photograph in the catalogue comes from DARPA and is in the public domain.
Among current machines, the Chinese Fengxing-001 is the one returning to hydraulics.
