Home Optimus plans are a long-term Tesla goal, not a product ready to order. Physically it is the same 173 cm / 57 kg platform, electrically driven and controlled by an adapted Tesla FSD stack, that has been developed in-house since 2021 and now works in the company's factories.
Elon Musk declares a target price on the order of USD 20,000, but industry estimates put the real unit cost at USD 50,000-100,000, and the first units would cost USD 25,000-40,000; the gap between the claim and the production cost is significant. There is no configurator, reservation list or delivery contract.
In the home-robot segment this competes more with announcements than with offers: 1X Neo and The Bot Company have more concrete commercialization plans, though they are not selling in volume yet either. For a Polish customer the product does not exist, neither as an offer nor as a date.
Industry analysts point to the end of 2027 as the earliest realistic moment for a home version to appear, and even that with caveats.

Running and deployment costs
There is no official manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP). Musk gives a long-term target of about USD 20,000; early units are estimated at USD 25,000-40,000, and the current unit cost at USD 50,000-100,000 (a source from July 2026). At the exchange rate in our catalog (USD 30,000 corresponds to about PLN 116,300 (≈ EUR 26,650 at NBP rate 4.3641 of 21 October 2026)), that would mean hundreds of thousands of zlotys in production cost; this is an estimate, not a shelf price.
At home there would be liability insurance, charging and space (as an estimate, since nobody yet knows the requirements), service, and possibly a software subscription if Tesla chooses that model. With such a large unknown, it is more sensible to calculate on products that exist: “How Much Does a Humanoid Robot Cost in 2026” and “Humanoid Robot TCO: How to Calculate Total Cost”.

Applications
What it's for
The home Optimus is an intention, not a product. Since 2021 Tesla has been developing a humanoid 173 cm tall and weighing 57 kg, controlled by an adapted FSD stack, and today this platform works inside the company's factories. The "for the home" version exists in the company's messaging as a long-term goal. There is no configurator, reservation or delivery contract, as of July 2026.
Home-robot presentations list folding clothes, unloading dishes and vacuuming as the humanoid's tasks. Tesla aims this message at private customers, but no one today sells a real product that will do these things in a Polish apartment. The nearest concrete plan belongs to 1X NEO, in pre-order for about PLN 77,524 (≈ EUR 17,760), likewise with no guarantee of volume deliveries. A humanoid in the home requires a level of safety that no home certification has yet confirmed; workplace safety requirements for robots are described in “Robot Safety Standards”. A robot with cameras in the home also raises privacy questions, which we discuss in “Data Security: Robots with Cameras and the GDPR” (data protection under the EU's GDPR). Musk's statement of a price around USD 20,000 is a distant goal, not an offer.
In the home, today there are vacuums, lawn-mowing robots and educational robots; see homes and home robots. For a Polish customer the "Optimus for the home" product simply does not exist, neither as an offer nor as a date. Current state of knowledge: “Tesla Optimus: What We Actually Know (as of September 2026)”.
Typical applications
Who it's for
This page is for you if you want to know whether it is worth holding off on buying a home robot to wait for Tesla; the answer is no: do not plan home purchases around Optimus, because it is not on offer. It is also for journalists and analysts who compare Musk's claims with real production costs.
It is not for you if: you are looking for a robot for your home this year or next, in which case pick solutions available today from home robots or wait for the results of 1X NEO; you need prices and dates, because there are none; you have concerns about privacy, since a robot with cameras in the home is a separate topic (“Data Security: Robots with Cameras and the GDPR”); or you want a humanoid for work, where machines working in companies are described in “Humanoid Robots in Factories 2026”.
Deployments
Optimus currently works only inside Tesla's factories, not in customers' homes. Documented are cleaning and mowing robots and the first attempts at home humanoids, such as 1X NEO. We have collected home companies and products in home robots and homes. Beware of offers to "reserve" an Optimus from third parties: Tesla takes no reservations, and such offers may be an attempt at fraud.
Comparison
Compare Tesla's home ambitions with concrete offers. 1X NEO is in pre-order for about PLN 77,524 (≈ EUR 17,760) and aims squarely at the home, though it is not yet selling in volume. Unitree R1 (about PLN 19,000 (≈ EUR 4,350)) is the cheapest humanoid in our catalog, for learning and demos, not for housework. Unitree G1 (about PLN 52,300 (≈ EUR 11,980)) gives you certainty of a market presence and an open specification. Tesla Optimus Gen 2 and Tesla Optimus Gen 3 are further generations of the same family, neither of which is on sale. If you care about a heavy payload in industry rather than at home, reach for Figure 03. None of these robots will fully do the housework, but each is available or has a concrete date, which cannot be said of the home Optimus.

History
The idea of a "Tesla robot" appeared in August 2021 and included a home goal from the start. Since then came the prototype Tesla Optimus Gen 1 (AI Day, September 2022), a second generation in December 2023 and a third shown in September 2026. In October 2024, at the "We, Robot" event, Musk announced a retail price of about USD 30,000, and in 2025 Optimus was demonstrated to audiences in London and Berlin. The home version, however, is a thread with no breakthrough event yet: there is no launch date or reservation, and observers point to the end of 2027 as the earliest date. We keep the chronology in “Tesla Optimus: What We Actually Know (as of September 2026)” and at Tesla.
Model unveiled
Musk says the Optimus Gen 3 unveiling will come closer to the start of production; assembly lines are being installed in Fremont and at Gigafactory Texas Tesla, Inc.
Tesla begins installing the Optimus production line at its Fremont factory; no customer deliveries yet Tesla, Inc.
Tesla shows Optimus Gen 3 (V3) with hands featuring 50 actuators/22 degrees of freedom, a battery of about 2.3 kWh, the AI5 chip and a Grok voice; a public demonstration of factory work is expected in late September/October 2026 Tesla, Inc.
Supply chain reports: Tesla is heading toward about 15,000 Optimus units in 2026, with production reaching about 1,000 units per week by the end of September Tesla, Inc.
