UR16e

What it's for

The UR16e is the workhorse for heavy jobs in the cobot class. It carries 16 kg, reaches 900 mm and has six degrees of freedom, plus a force/torque sensor at the tip, like the entire e-Series family. The short reach paired with a big payload is a deliberate trade-off: the arm is compact and strong rather than long.

It fits best with machine tending and heavier palletizing, the two applications typically listed for it. In machine tending, the 16 kg payload leaves headroom even when the gripper weighs a few kilograms and the part is a heavy forging. The short arm is an advantage here, because it fits into the tight space next to the machine.

In palletizing, a robot with a 900 mm reach can serve a small pallet standing close to its base, but for a full-size Euro pallet integrators often reach for models with a longer arm.

In the laboratory and in quality control the UR16e is usually overkill, unless it is moving heavy tooling. The model's biggest strength is its six years on the market: so many grippers, adapters and ready-made applications from partners that an integrator rarely has to build anything from scratch.

Who it's for

The UR16e is for companies with medium-heavy parts or packaging that want a proven platform with a large accessory ecosystem. A machining shop, a stamping plant running small batches, a warehouse with heavy cartons: anywhere the critical range is 12 to 16 kg and the working space is limited.

It is not for those who need a long reach, because 900 mm is little for a full-size pallet. Nor is it for those who count on the latest technology: a 2019 design may gradually be displaced by the UR12e and UR15. Deployments

The robot is commercially available through elmark.com.pl, which means it is offered through the normal distribution channel, and no public description of an installation exists.

In this category, meaning 10 to 20 kg cobots for machine tending and palletizing, FANUC, Doosan and Techman solutions are also active in Poland. A list of Polish deployments is in the section on robots in Poland.

The closest relative is the UR15: 15 kg (up to 17.5 kg for palletizing), much faster and newer, but without the 16 kg reserve. The UR20 adds 4 kg, a 1,750 mm reach and welding to its list of applications, at the cost of a heavier robot (64 kg). If reach matters to you, the UR12e has 1,300 mm at 12.5 kg.

Outside the UR family: the Doosan M1509 carries 15 kg at a 900 mm reach, so on paper it is the nearest twin, and in Poland it is handled by coboty-doosan.pl. The Techman TM14 offers 14 kg, a 1,100 mm reach and built-in 2D vision (distributor: tfm-robotics.pl). The KUKA LBR iisy 15 R930 is 15 kg and 930 mm, available via zapamet.pl. Prices are not public anywhere, so the quote and the availability of service will decide.

The UR16e appeared in 2019 and for years was the strongest arm of the original e-Series: 16 kg of payload in a compact housing. Universal Robots, a company from Odense founded in 2005, then added further rungs. The UR20 was introduced in 2022 (on sale from 2023), the UR30 in 2023, and in May 2025 the UR7e, UR12e and UR15.

Today the UR16e is the oldest model in this group. According to our catalog it may cede ground to newer machines in the coming years, but for now it has the largest set of proven integrations. It is a good example of how, in robotics, the age of a platform can be an asset: someone has already solved the typical problems.
