Universal Robots introduced the UR20 in 2022 as the first model of a new series of high-performance cobots, designed from the ground up with a new arm geometry. Its 20 kg payload lets it take on tasks previously reserved for industrial robots, without a safety cage: palletizing, welding and machine tending.
Six axes and an integrated force/torque sensor at the tool flange allow precise contact sensing, which is key when working alongside people. In the Universal Robots lineup the UR20 sits below the flagship UR30 (30 kg payload, 63.5 kg weight), offering a lighter build with still-high load capacity, a good compromise for plants that do not need the full 30 kg.
The manufacturer gives no official price; distributors in Poland (elmark.com.pl) quote individually. The manufacturer states openly on the product page a dead weight of 64 kg and a reach of 1,750 mm; these are not hidden in a PDF datasheet but visible right in the specification table. The weak point remains the lack of a public list price, which makes a quick comparison of deployment costs harder.
The UR20 suits medium and large manufacturing plants planning to automate heavier operations without investing in classic fenced industrial robots.

Running and deployment costs
Universal Robots does not give a price for the UR20, and distributors in Poland (elmark.com.pl) quote individually. So we have no documented figure. The reference points we have are the UR5e (127,611.00 PLN (≈ EUR 29,240)) and the UR10e (159,645.00 PLN (≈ EUR 36,580)); as a rough estimate, the UR20, being a larger model, costs more than the UR10e, but that is a hypothesis.
With heavy tasks the accessories cost noticeably: a gripper for large loads, and for welding a power source, a torch, fixtures and guarding. As a rough estimate a whole workstation can cost several times the arm alone. Running costs are service, welding consumables and energy. Training covers programming as well as health and safety in welding. Poland's robotization tax relief (ulga na robotyzację) allows an additional deduction of 50% of eligible costs (robot, accessories, training), but it applies to expenses from 2022 to 2026; verify the status beyond 2026.

Applications
What it's for
The UR20 is a cobot that steps onto ground previously reserved for classic industrial robots. A 20 kg payload, a 1,750 mm reach and 64 kg of dead weight (figures shown right in the manufacturer's specification table) allow tasks where a smaller arm would have to give up. It has six degrees of freedom and a force/torque sensor at the tip, and Universal Robots designed it from the ground up with a new arm geometry.
The typical applications are palletizing, welding and machine tending. In welding, a UR20 with a torch can run the repetitive seams on serial parts while a person positions the parts and checks quality. Welding does, however, require separate equipment and guarding, so it does not end with buying the robot alone.
For palletizing, a 1,750 mm reach lets it serve a full pallet without an additional linear axis, and 20 kg is enough for sacks, jerricans and cartons of beverages. In machine tending the arm reaches into large machining centers.
In warehouses with heavy parcels and in construction (prefabrication of elements) the UR20 provides a cage-free variant where otherwise someone would have to fence off a zone around a robot. Whether a cage is needed is always decided by the risk assessment for the specific workstation, not by a marketing brochure.
Typical applications
Who it's for
The UR20 is for medium and large plants that want to automate heavier operations without investing in a classic fenced industrial robot: palletizing heavy packaging, welding serial parts, tending large machines. It works especially well where the product mix changes and the program has to be switched quickly.
It is not for a small workshop with light parts, because you pay too much for specifications you will not use. If you need more than 20 kg, look at the UR30. If your parts weigh up to 12 to 15 kg, the UR12e or UR15 will be cheaper and easier to mount. The weak side of the model remains the lack of a public list price, which makes a quick comparison of deployment costs harder. Remember too that 64 kg of dead weight requires a solid base.
Deployments
We know that the robot is commercially available through elmark.com.pl, but availability alone is not a description of an installation.
In the category of heavy cobots for palletizing and welding, FANUC (via spawalnictwo.pl) and Doosan (via coboty-doosan.pl) are also active in Poland. Where the task is robotic welding, working with an experienced integrator matters, and we keep a list of Polish integrators in a separate section.
Comparison
The UR family offers three neighboring steps. The UR16e has a 16 kg payload and a 900 mm reach, is older but proven, and is sufficient for machine tending. The UR30 lifts 30 kg (up to 35 kg under limited conditions) at a similar dead weight of 63.5 kg and a reach of 1,300 mm, which helps with heavy palletizing. The UR15 is much faster but carries 15 to 17.5 kg.
Outside UR: the FANUC CRX-20iA/L has 20 kg and a 1,418 mm reach for palletizing (spawalnictwo.pl). The Doosan H2017 is 20 kg and a 1,700 mm reach for machine tending and palletizing, handled in Poland by coboty-doosan.pl. The Techman TM25S offers 25 kg, 1,902 mm and a force/torque sensor (tfm-robotics.pl). Prices are on request everywhere.

History
Universal Robots introduced the UR20 in 2022, with sales starting in 2023. It was the first model of a new series of high-performance cobots, designed from the ground up rather than as an enlarged version of an older arm. Before it, the strongest in the family was the UR16e from 2019. A year after the UR20 came the UR30 with a 30 kg payload, and in May 2025 the UR7e, UR12e and UR15.
In the lineup the UR20 sits below the flagship UR30: only slightly lighter, but with a longer reach (1,750 mm versus 1,300 mm) and a payload that satisfies most welding and palletizing tasks. For the Odense company, founded in 2005, this was an entry into a segment that previously belonged to the big industrial robot makers.
