Summary

Conceived in 2013, REEM-C was the first adult-size biped research humanoid from PAL Robotics in Barcelona, a company founded in 2004. PAL now files it under its legacy robots, although a quote can still be requested, which is why the catalogue marks it as discontinued. The machine stands 165 cm, weighs 80 kg and carries 68 degrees of freedom, including five-finger hands with a 1 kg payload.

It walks at 2.5 km/h (0.69 m/s), with roughly 3 hours of walking or 6 hours on standby per charge. Torque sensors in the ankles and wrists supported research into stair climbing, grasping and locomotion control. Software runs on Ubuntu Linux with ROS, and the simulation model is open source, which made REEM-C a familiar platform in university labs.

By today's standards its hand payload and walking pace are modest next to newer bipeds such as 4NE-1, but for teaching and locomotion research the mature ROS integration still counts. Its successor in PAL's research line is PAL Robotics TALOS. Price on request. A photograph of the robot is available under a free licence, convenient for lecture material.
