Three tonnes of payload in a single unit and up to six tonnes when coupled with a second vehicle - the KMP 3000P is the heaviest of the family of Omnimove mobile platforms from Germany's KUKA described here.

The omnidirectional drive allows sideways movement and turning on the spot, which matters when transporting oversized components in tight production halls, where a classic differential drive (as in the smaller KMP 600P) would need more maneuvering space. Like the other KMP platforms, the model charges inductively and can work around the clock with no downtime for battery swaps.

KUKA does not publish the price of the KMP 3000P - the data available in the sources is limited to the technical specification and the launch press release. Compared with competing heavy AMRs from other manufacturers, KUKA stands out for how mature its integration is with the rest of a plant's automation offering, but it also usually requires a costlier project deployment.

The model is available in Poland through KUKA Polska Sp. z o.o., which gives access to local service and deployment advice. It is a proposal for heavy-industry, automotive or aerospace plants where a single load regularly exceeds a tonne.

Running and deployment costs

The price of the KMP 3000P is not given; the sources are limited to the technical specification and a press release. We therefore publish no amount. As a rough order of magnitude, heavy AMRs with omnidirectional drive sit well above light platforms, and project deployment adds integration costs. You need to add inductive-charging infrastructure, hall mapping, a traffic-management system, possibly a second vehicle for the 6 t mode, and staff training. Service is available locally through KUKA Polska. Because the vehicle replaces overhead cranes and forklifts for heavy components, the business case is worth basing on downtime and the risk of damage to transported parts - the calculation scheme is shown in “Humanoid Robot TCO: How to Calculate Total Cost”. The rules of Poland's robotization tax relief (ulga na robotyzację) are described in “Poland's Robotization Tax Relief”.

Applications

What it's for

The KUKA KMP 3000P is a platform for heavy loads: a payload of 3 tonnes per unit, and in "load sharing" mode with a second vehicle up to 6 tonnes. The Omnimove omnidirectional drive lets it travel sideways and turn on the spot, which in a tight hall matters more than sheer speed. The robot charges inductively and can work around the clock, like the rest of the KMP family. In a heavy-industry, automotive or aerospace plant it will prove itself moving large structural elements between assembly stations, see factories. In large assembly halls on industrial construction sites, such a platform could carry prefabricated elements, see construction sites; that is, however, an example of the class of use, not a confirmed deployment. Compared with the differential drive of KUKA KMP 600P, the omnidirectional drive gives greater freedom of maneuver with large dimensions. Working safely around such a mass requires scanners and procedures; the basics are covered in “Robot Safety Standards”, and one example of a scanner supplier is SICK.

Typical applications

  • up to 3 t (up to 6 t in "Load Sharing" mode with a second vehicle)

Who it's for

Makes sense for: heavy-industry, automotive and aerospace plants where a single load regularly exceeds a tonne. Who it is for: companies that need turning on the spot and sideways movement with large elements. Who it is for: plants that value local service: KUKA Polska Sp. z o.o. is the distributor. Who it is not for: warehouses with pallets up to one tonne - there the cheaper, lighter KUKA KMP 1500P will be enough. Who it is not for: small plants, because the project deployment is costly and the price is not public. Who it is not for: those who want to buy without an integrator.

Deployments

The model is available in Poland through KUKA Polska Sp. z o.o., but there are no named references, so: no confirmed deployments in Poland. No specific plants abroad are named by a reliable source either. To see what actually works in Polish warehouses and factories in the AMR category, read “AMR Robots in the Warehouse” and mobile robots.

Comparison

KUKA KMP 1500P - if your loads fit within 1.5 t, you save on platform size and keep the KUKA ecosystem. OTTO 1500 with a payload of 1,900 kg, a dead weight of 627 kg and a runtime of about 10 hours; it does not match 3 t, but is often sufficient for many pallets, though without a confirmed distributor in Poland. MiR1350 - MiR's heaviest AMR, 1,350 kg. For a comparison with European competition, also look at SAFELOG AGV L2, which carries 1,500 kg and tows up to 1,500 kg, though without a distributor in Poland. A roundup of all of them is in the category “Mobile robots (AMR)”.

History

The KMP 3000P belongs to the family of Omnimove mobile platforms from Germany's KUKA. There is no launch date for this model in the sources, so we do not give one; the only certain event from its surroundings is June 2023, when KUKA introduced the KMP 1500P, which sits in the middle of the range. The KMP 3000P is the heaviest in that range, complemented by the compact KUKA KMP 600P. More about the manufacturer is on the page KUKA.
