Summary

- CategoryMobile robots (AMR)
- Statuson sale

The robot is just 31 cm tall, a typical low profile that lets it drive under racks and pallets, weighs 243 kg (L2 Core) to 329 kg (L2 Lift) and carries as much as 1,500 kg; when towing carts and trailers it can pull loads of up to 1,500 kg. It sits at the top of SAFELOG's range, which spans the S, M, L and X series with rising payload, starting at about 150 kg for the lightest model, the S3.
Compared with competing heavy-transport AGVs/AMRs, such as models from Denmark's MiR, the L2 stands out for its very high towing capacity, although MiR puts more emphasis on ease of software integration and a wider network of deployments in Central Europe. The manufacturer does not publish a price or the L2's travel speed, which makes cost comparison difficult without contacting sales.
In Poland there is no confirmed distributor, despite the manufacturer's geographic proximity in Bavaria. The robot suits large production plants and warehouses moving heavy pallets or carts over long distances, and is oversized for smaller halls with light goods.

Running and deployment costs
The AGV L2's price is not public: we hold no quote, and the manufacturer works on a project basis. As an order of magnitude, a heavy AGV with a 1,500 kg payload costs an estimated several hundred thousand zloty and up per unit, plus integration with the warehouse system and infrastructure.
Running costs include charging, inspections, possible wheel replacement and fleet software updates. Training operators and maintenance staff takes an estimated few days. A large item is often the implementation project: route analysis, markings, integration with WMS or MES.
Payback is assessed as for other logistics robots; we describe the method in “Humanoid Robot TCO: How to Calculate Total Cost”. Polish companies can use the robotization tax relief (ulga na robotyzację), provided they meet the formal requirements: “Poland's Robotization Tax Relief”.

Applications
What it's for
This is a robot for moving things that cannot be lifted by hand. We list it under the identifier “L1”, but according to the manufacturer's current lineup (SAFELOG, Markt Schwaben, Bavaria) the correct name is AGV L2, the heaviest model in the XS1/S3/M4/X1/GT1/L2 family. It has a payload of up to 1,500 kg, and the same when towing carts or trailers. The height we list is 34 cm and the weight 280 kg, but these two values are still unconfirmed, and the Core and Lift variants differ (31 cm; 243 and 329 kg).
The first use is the production hall (factories): the robot drives up to a cart, hooks on and tows it to the assembly area, while the Lift variant drives under the load and raises it, classic AGV work on a production line.
The second use is internal logistics (warehouses): moving pallets from unloading to storage, fixed routes, many trips a day. The AGV L2 is handy here because its low profile lets it drive under a pallet or cart. The third is assembly halls with heavy components, where repeatability and the safety of people nearby matter. Safety rules are covered in “Robot Safety Standards”.
It works best where routes repeat and loads are heavy and standardized. It is not a robot for a dynamic, crowded warehouse; there, an AMR with full free navigation will do better.
Typical applications
Who it's for
For plants with heavy loads and fixed routes: machinery manufacturers, the automotive industry, heavy industry, large warehouses. The company should have an internal logistics planner and a readiness to prepare zones and route markings.
Not for small warehouses with light cartons; there, 1,500 kg is overkill and the robot is too heavy. Not for companies that need local service: our catalog shows no confirmed distributor in Poland. If you are starting with a small pilot, consider the lighter SAFELOG AGV S3 or proven AMRs with a Polish partner network.
Deployments
The manufacturer operates in Germany and serves industrial customers on a project basis. In the AGV/AMR category, Polish deployments belong instead to brands described in “AMR Robots in the Warehouse”; see also mobile robots.
Comparison
SAFELOG AGV S3: the little brother from the same family, with a 150 kg payload, towing of up to 500 kg and a height of 22 cm. Good for light loads.
MiR1350: an AMR from Mobile Industrial Robots with a high pallet payload, using free navigation with no tapes or markers. More flexible, but usually does not match 1,500 kg.
KUKA KMP 3000P: a KUKA platform for truly heavy loads, often chosen in integrations with robot arms.
OTTO 1500: a pallet AMR from OTTO by Rockwell Automation, with a mature deployment network and fleet software.

History
SAFELOG has operated since 1996 and has developed driverless transport systems for years. The current range is the XS1/S3/M4/X1/GT1/L2 family, in which the L2 is the heaviest model. The name “L1” is a leftover of an earlier designation; the manufacturer does not present an L1 model in its current lineup. We have no launch events on record for this model, so we give no generation dates.
