Behind Cloud Ginger and Cloud Pepper stands Shanghai-based Dataa Robotics, founded in 2015, which develops its own operating system, HARIX Cloud AI, for cloud-controlled service robots. The portfolio covers humanoid reception and assistant robots (Cloud Ginger, Cloud Pepper, Cloudia), positioned as an alternative to SoftBank's Pepper in customer service and events.

Press materials have mentioned a bipedal model called “XR4”, but it is not confirmed on the company's official website, which lists only Cloud models. The manufacturer does not disclose funding, headcount or commercial presence in Europe.

For the Polish market the company's significance remains marginal for now, mainly as an example of the Chinese approach to service robots built on the cloud instead of local computing.

History and development

Dataa Robotics is a Shanghai company founded in 2015. It develops its own operating system, HARIX Cloud AI, for cloud-controlled service robots. The idea is that a robot doesn't have to carry all the computation on board, because the processing load moves to the network.

The portfolio covers humanoid reception and assistant robots: Cloud Ginger, Cloud Pepper and Cloudia. They are positioned as an alternative to SoftBank's Pepper robot in customer service and at events. Press materials have mentioned a bipedal model called “XR4”, but the company's official website does not confirm it. It lists only models from the Cloud family, so we don't attribute a two-legged humanoid to the company.

Dataa lists as typical tasks: reception, security patrolling and retail service. The name “Cloud Ginger” also appears with CloudMinds XR-1 from CloudMinds; we do not confirm any relationship between the companies. The company does not say how many robots have reached customers.

Portfolio

One model represents the company in our lineup: Dataa Cloud Ginger. It is a cloud-based service robot running the HARIX Cloud AI system, 158 cm tall, weighing 65 kg and with 34 degrees of freedom. The tasks the manufacturer describes are reception, security patrol and customer service in retail.

There is no public price and no confirmed availability in Poland. We also don't know what actual deployment at customers looks like. The parameters are best read following the rules in the article “How to Read a Robot Datasheet”, and degrees of freedom are explained in “Degrees of Freedom (DOF) in Humanoid Robots”.

The reference point in this class is Pepper, the classic reception robot, and also temi V3, a much simpler mobile robot. The whole class is gathered in the category “Service robots”, and the applications are retail and security. The Cloud family suggests a consistent philosophy, but for each model you need to check separately what is truly a robot capability and what is a cloud function. A buyer should ask about operation without internet, about latency and about where camera data is stored, because for robots in public spaces this is a matter of GDPR compliance. More on this in the article “Data Security: Robots with Cameras and the GDPR”.

Market position

Dataa Robotics does not disclose funding, headcount or commercial presence in Europe. We therefore have no basis to judge the scale of the company. All we know is that its strategy rests on the cloud instead of local computing.

The closest competitor in our lineup is SoftBank Robotics with the Pepper robot, to which Dataa compares itself, and Aldebaran Robotics, which stands behind the original Pepper. In addition, Richtech Robotics and Robotemi Global represent the American and Israeli approaches to service robots.

A separate matter is the name “Cloud Ginger”, which also appears with CloudMinds. No relationship between the companies is confirmed, so we don't presume one. To form your own opinion of the company, hard data is lacking, and marketing claims have to be verified. In a comparison with SoftBank, remember that Pepper has a longer footprint in public sources, which makes it easier to judge its real position.

Presence in Poland

For the Polish market, Dataa Robotics is of marginal significance for now. There is no Polish distributor, no Polish price and no deployment at a domestic customer, and the Cloud Ginger model is marked as unavailable in Poland.

The company is useful mainly as an example of the Chinese approach to cloud-based service robots. Polish companies working in service robotics are listed in the article “Polish Robotics Companies”. Anyone who nonetheless considers a cloud robot should check whether the cloud operator complies with EU data rules. The article “Service Robots in Restaurants and Hotels” shows which service robots have real relevance for Polish venues.

Editorial verdict

Cloud Ginger is an interesting idea of a cloud-controlled robot, but with no price, no funding data and no availability in Poland. For a company looking for a reception robot, a more sensible starting point is Pepper. Until the price and presence in Europe are disclosed, there is no basis to recommend a purchase. Also check temi V3 as a simpler alternative. And check CloudMinds XR-1 to see the second brand with the same model name.
