A comparison of the UR3e and the UR7e. Both arms come from Universal Robots, have six axes and the same type of sensing, so the differences come down to scale. The UR3e is the smallest and lightest model in the current line, sold since 2018. The UR7e entered the range in May 2025 as the successor to the UR5e. The question, then, is whether 3 kg is enough or whether to take 7.5 kg straight away. We collected beginner’s guidance in “What Is a Cobot and How Does It Differ from an Industrial Robot” and a selection method in “How to Buy a Cobot Step by Step”. The whole class of arms is described in the cobots category.

Design and specifications

The UR3e has a 3 kg payload and a 540 mm reach (the official product page; an older datasheet gave 500 mm). The UR7e has a 7.5 kg payload and a 920 mm reach, weighs 20.6 kg and has a repeatability of ±0.03 mm. We do not state a weight for the UR3e because it is not. Both robots have six axes, an electric drive and a force/torque sensor at the tool flange.

Reach is a bigger difference than payload: 920 mm against 540 mm means the UR7e can serve a much wider work cell without moving the base. The UR3e wins on compactness and fits easily on an assembly bench with little surface area. A 7.5 kg payload is more than twice 3 kg, which makes a difference with a heavy gripper: a two-finger gripper with a camera can already eat half of the UR3e’s nominal payload. The UR7e keeps the reach and repeatability of the UR5e and raises the capacity from 5 to 7.5 kg. How to read these figures is explained in the article “How to Read a Robot Datasheet”.

Price and availability in Poland

According to the 2026 a third-party market roundup, the UR3e costs about USD 35,000, roughly PLN 135,670 (≈ EUR 31,090) at a rate of 3.8762 from 1 October 2026. The manufacturer does not publish an official price list and sells through distributors with individual quotes, so treat this figure as a guide. For the UR7e there is no public price at all, and cost information comes only from a distributor. We do not know the figure and will not guess it.

In Poland, Elmark Automatyka carries Universal Robots collaborative robots in its range, and a distributor list is available on the manufacturer’s site. The CP Trade page describes only the older UR3, UR5 and UR10, so availability of the UR7e has to be confirmed by enquiry. On top of the arm price add the gripper, the guarding and the integration: that usually dominates the budget of a small project.

Which model for which job

The UR3e is the classic choice for assembling small parts, quality inspection and pick&place in short runs. It suits the laboratory, where it moves tubes, plates and samples, as well as benches in a factory where electronics are assembled. It is also often found at a university, because it is small, safe and inexpensive next to the rest of the family.

The UR7e can handle assembly tasks with heavier grippers, machine tending and light palletizing, and on mixed lines where small parts sit alongside heavier operations it provides a reserve the UR3e lacks. For grippers on both robots, check the range from Robotiq and OnRobot. If you need even more payload, the next rung of the UR ladder is the UR12e.

Conclusion

The UR3e, on sale since 2018, is the smallest cobot in the UR portfolio, with a payload of just 3 kg, aimed at electronics and lab work in tight spaces. The UR7e, launched in May 2025 as the successor to the UR5e, raises the payload to 7.5 kg and weighs 20.6 kg; the UR3e's weight isn't given. Both have the same number of axes (6) and the same type of sensor, a force-torque sensor at the tool flange. The UR3e has an indicative market price of $35,000 according to third-party listings; for the UR7e the manufacturer doesn't disclose a price outright. Both are available in Poland through the same distributors, elmark.com.pl. The UR3e suits small-part assembly and quality control, while the UR7e can handle heavier assembly tasks and light palletizing. For lines that mix fine assembly with heavier operations, the UR7e gives more payload headroom without losing precision.

For laboratories, universities and firms assembling electronics from small components, with no plans for heavier tooling, the UR3e is a sensible, compact choice. For plants where a gripper with a camera weighs a kilogram or two and the robot has to serve different parts and larger cells, the UR7e gives a safer reserve of payload and reach. If you are unsure, buy the UR7e: it is easier to use surplus capacity than to fight a shortage. Choose the UR3e when the limit is bench space, not payload. Before ordering, measure the farthest point the robot must reach and add the gripper’s mass to the part’s mass.

Frequently asked questions
