Summary

UMA's Northstar made its public debut on 7 July 2026 at the Machina Summit in Paris. The company is led by Remi Cadene, formerly a researcher on Tesla's Optimus programme and on the LeRobot project at Hugging Face, and he has described the machine shown as a version-zero prototype.

UMA publishes no technical figures for it: height, weight, degrees of freedom, carrying capacity and runtime are all unstated, and even the form factor is not settled. Press reports describe a wheeled, dual-arm proof of concept as the first step and a bipedal platform as the later goal, so this catalogue leaves the body type open.

The software approach is described as real-time learning, where the robot picks up a task by watching a person perform it. The company left stealth in December 2025 and, according to press coverage, raised a seed round of around 40 million USD from Greycroft, Red River West, Kima and Factorial, a figure that remains unconfirmed.

Pilot programmes in logistics, manufacturing and healthcare are planned for 2026, with European factories and warehouses first and household use later. No price has been announced. Compared with an established research platform such as Unitree H2, Northstar is for now a declaration of intent rather than a product.
