Tau Humanoid

Rather than selling a robot, Tau Robotics of San Francisco sells cleaning hours. Since August 2026 the company, founded in 2024 by Alexander Koch and Cornelia Weinzierl, has been sending teleoperated humanoids into private homes, and it treats every visit as training data for the vision-language-action models that are meant to take over from the human operators step by step.

Summary

Rather than selling a robot, Tau Robotics of San Francisco sells cleaning hours. Since August 2026 the company, founded in 2024 by Alexander Koch and Cornelia Weinzierl, has been sending teleoperated humanoids into private homes, and it treats every visit as training data for the vision-language-action models that are meant to take over from the human operators step by step.

Euronews reported in September 2026 a rate of 30 US dollars per robot-hour, 60 dollars for two robots; sessions last one hour and usually involve two machines. More than 50 homes had been cleaned by September 2026, with access by invitation only. The task list covers vacuuming, mopping, toilets, taking out rubbish and tidying.

Each robot carries cameras with depth data in its head and wrists plus sensors for joint position, force and balance; the microphones are switched off. An operator monitors every visit remotely and an adult must be present in the home. The maker has published no model name, height, weight, joint count or battery figure, and reports that the hardware is based on another company's platform remain unconfirmed.

There is no purchase price because the hardware is not for sale. A home humanoid that also learns from teleoperation is 1X NEO, but that one is offered to customers for pre-order.
