Summary

KAPEX is a bipedal humanoid developed jointly by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, where the AI and Robotics Institute unit under Lee Jong-won leads the hardware, LG Electronics and LG AI Research. The programme was announced on 8 October 2025 and the robot gave its first public demonstration on 13 November 2025 at KIST, shaking hands with Korea's deputy prime minister.

KIST puts the height at 170 cm and the weight in the 60 kg class, recorded here as 60 kg, and says the robot lifts 20 kg objects. Movement comes from in-house high-power actuators across the whole body, and the multi-finger hand carries fine tactile sensing. The cognitive layer is LG's EXAONE vision-language model, version 4.5, combined with reinforcement learning.

Joint count, speed and runtime are not disclosed. The status is prototype: industrial field tests are planned, and LG Electronics is to handle productisation and commercialisation within four years, including trials as a household helper. Price on request. Whether KAPEX is the same project as the LG Bipedal Humanoid has not been confirmed.
