Summary

Before LG showed the CLOiD robot in 2026, the company presented the Q9 concept at CES 2024 (and again at IFA 2024): a two-legged, wheel-driven smart-home manager robot. The Q9 has a camera sensor and an air-quality and humidity sensor, and its job was meant to be managing smart-home functions through a multimodal AI agent.

LG then declared an intention to commercialize the model "next year" (counting from the September 2024 presentation), yet by September 2026 there was no confirmed price, spec sheet or launch date. The model therefore remains a concept, not a product. Its status is "concept", which reflects the lack of commercial progress two years after the announcement.

Compared with the newer LG CLOiD (2026), which demonstrated concrete manipulation tasks such as folding laundry, the Q9 focused solely on managing the home, with no physical work shown. Next to the Samsung Ballie, a competing project presented around the same time, the Q9 is just as vague on real technical parameters.

Its strength is LG's early positioning in home AI robots; its weakness is two years without specifics despite the announcement. The model is not available in Poland, with no announced price or sales date; today it is more of a historical curiosity than a real market offer.

Running and deployment costs

The LG Q9 has no price; the sources state plainly that none has been published. There is also no service price list, subscription or distributor in Poland. The purchase cost is therefore unknown, and every figure below is only an estimate for comparison. Order of magnitude: a home robot of the Amazon Astro class costs $1,449.99, and a robot with arms, such as the 1X NEO, $20,000. The Q9 has no arms, so as a rough guess it would land at the lower end of that range, but that is a hypothesis, not an LG announcement. Operating costs, meaning energy and any AI subscription, have not been specified. Training doesn't apply to a home device. Applications

What it's for

The LG Q9 was meant to be a smart-home manager: a robot that rolls around the apartment, checks air quality and humidity, watches with a camera what is going on, and controls appliances through a multimodal AI agent. The concept was shown at CES 2024 (and again at IFA 2024) as a robot on two legs with a wheeled drive. The sources contain no demonstration of physical work. In practice the greatest potential would be in homes, and in larger installations also hotels. Physical tasks such as grasping and folding were not part of the Q9 showing at all; they appeared only with the newer LG CLOiD from 2026. That is why the Q9 belongs to the home robots category, yet is closer to a home-management station than to a robot that does something with its hands. The competing Samsung Ballie had similar ambitions and ended up as a withdrawn project.

Who it's for

Of interest to smart-home enthusiasts and analysts who want to understand how LG thought about a home robot in 2024. Journalists and trend researchers comparing the concepts of successive manufacturers.

Not for buyers: the robot never went on sale, has no price, spec sheet or launch date, and LG was already announcing commercialization "next year" back in September 2024. It is not available in Poland. It is unfit for any work in a company or school; it has no parameters that would let you plan for it.

Deployments

The Q9 never went on sale, so it has no users beyond trade-show demos. We have no customer names or installations, so we don't invent any. In the home segment, companion robots such as the Sony aibo ERS-1000 and monitoring robots such as the Amazon Astro have real users; home robots with arms are only on pre-order (1X NEO). Overview: home robots.

Comparison

LG CLOiD: the 2026 successor; a prototype with arms and a concrete towel-folding demonstration, also without a price.

Samsung Ballie: Samsung's ball-shaped robot, announced since 2020 and withdrawn from sale in the US in February 2026; a similar story of an unfulfilled promise.

Amazon Astro: a home monitoring robot with Alexa at $1,449.99; genuinely available, although the business variant was withdrawn and shut down in 2024.

Sony aibo ERS-1000: a companion robot that is actually on sale; a different philosophy (emotion, not home management).

1X NEO: a home humanoid on pre-order in the US at $20,000; the only one in this group with a real order option.

Which to choose? If you want to buy something, none of the robots above that perform hands-on tasks is available in Poland today; the closest to a real offer is the 1X NEO in the US.

History

LG presented the Q9 in January 2024 at the CES trade show as a concept for a two-legged home-management robot, and showed it again at IFA in September 2024. At that time it announced commercialization "next year". By September 2026 no price, spec sheet or launch date had appeared, so the status remains "concept".

In January 2026 LG returned to the subject with the LG CLOiD prototype, which has arms and concrete task demonstrations. The company also announced a bipedal humanoid for 2027 (LG Bipedal Humanoid). The Q9 thus became the first chapter of a long story that has not yet ended. Manufacturer profile: LG Electronics.
