Pet hair is a different problem from dust
A robot picks up dust and crumbs with ease. Hair causes trouble for three reasons: it wraps around brushes, fills the bin quickly and spreads across the whole flat, including under furniture where pets like to sleep. Add bowls, toys and, on bad days, accidents the robot can smear across the floor.
That is why a home with a dog or cat calls for slightly different priorities than our general guide “How to Choose a Robot Vacuum”. We go through them one by one and list only features the manufacturer of each model states outright. All prices were checked on 10 October 2026; the full list of models is in the category “Robot vacuums”.
A brush that hair does not wrap around
This matters most. An ordinary bristle brush wraps itself in hair after a few runs and loses effectiveness, and cutting tangles off with scissors becomes a routine. Manufacturers respond with rubber blades, split brushes or blades that cut hair. The names are marketing, but they are worth looking for on the product page:
- Roborock Q7 M5 — JawScrapers main brush and anti-tangle side brush,
- Dreame D20 Pro and Dreame X50 Ultra Complete — dual HyperStream brush,
- Dreame L40 Ultra AE — rubber brush plus TriCut brush,
- ECOVACS DEEBOT mini and T50 PRO OMNI — ZeroTangle 2.0; DEEBOT T30C Gen 2 — ZeroTangle 3.0,
- Roborock Saros 10R — DuoDivide brush,
- eufy Omni C28 — DuoSpiral brush,
- iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo — two rubber brushes.
Manufacturers do not say how these designs handle very long hair. With long-haired breeds you will still need to take the brush out and clean it regularly, though less often than a conventional one.
Suction: important, but not decisive
Suction, quoted in pascals (Pa), helps pull hair out of carpets. Our catalogue covers a wide range: from 5,000 Pa in the simplest models to 36,000 Pa in the Roborock Saros 20. Manufacturers publish these figures themselves, without independent measurement, so a gap of a few thousand pascals between two models says little.
On hard floors practically any robot will collect hair. Weaker suction shows on carpets. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C (5,000 Pa) is clearly weaker on longer-pile rugs, and with the iRobot Roomba 105 Combo + AutoEmpty (7,000 Pa) the lower suction shows when there is a lot of hair.
Bowls, cables and accidents: obstacle recognition
A robot with LiDAR alone sees walls and furniture well but is worse at spotting low objects on the floor. For pet owners there are three levels:
- Structured light or a line laser — the robot detects a low obstacle and avoids it but does not know what it is (e.g. Dreame D20 Pro, ECOVACS DEEBOT T30C Gen 2, ECOVACS DEEBOT mini).
- A camera with object recognition — the robot identifies the type of obstacle (e.g. Dreame L40 Ultra AE, ECOVACS DEEBOT T50 PRO OMNI, Roborock Saros 10R).
- Stated pet-waste recognition — in our catalogue only Dreame X50 Ultra Complete and iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo + AutoWash claim it outright.
Image recognition is not infallible. If your pet has accidents, schedule cleaning after a walk or when someone is at home. The cameras in the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum 5 Pro and 6 Max and the Roborock Saros 20 also let you check on your pet in the app, and the Saros 20 recognises pets. That is a nice extra, not a reason to buy.
Bin and station: who empties the hair
The bin in the robot itself is small and hair takes up a lot of space. With the iRobot Roomba 115 Combo (PLN 549 (≈ EUR 125)) expect to empty it often, and the iRobot Roomba Plus 575 Combo + AutoWash returns to its station more often when there is a lot of hair. The Dreame D20 Pro has a 700 ml bin.
A self-emptying station takes this chore away. Manufacturers state how long a bag or container lasts:
- Dreame L40 Ultra AE and L10s Ultra Gen 3 — 3.2 l bag, about 100 days,
- Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra — 2.5 l bag, up to 120 days,
- ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI — about 90 days,
- ECOVACS DEEBOT X12 OmniCyclone — 1.6 l bagless cyclone container, about 48 days.
These are manufacturers' estimates. During shedding season the bag will fill faster. Stations that wash mops also rinse the pads, which collect hair too; more on mopping in “Robot Vacuum Mop Types Explained”.

Some prices are promotions: the DEEBOT T30C Gen 2 normally costs PLN 2,149 (≈ EUR 490), the Dreame L40 Ultra AE PLN 2,099 (≈ EUR 480) and the Saros 10R PLN 4,399 (≈ EUR 1,010). Cheaper models are compared in “Robot Vacuums Under PLN 2,000”.
Where a robot will not help
- Sofa and scratching post. A robot cleans floors, not upholstery. The exception is the eufy Omni E28 with its detachable FlexiOne module for spot-cleaning stains by hand, but that is a separate device you operate yourself.
- A low pet bed under the bed. Taller robots will not get there: the eufy Omni C28 is 11.5 cm tall and the Roomba Max 775 Combo 10.5 cm. The lowest models are covered in “Robot Vacuum for Small Flats”.
- No camera. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum H50 Pro, Roborock Qrevo S Pro and Roomba Plus 415 Combo do not classify obstacles. Toys, leads and cables have to be picked up before cleaning.
- Long-pile rugs. For the H50 Pro and the Xiaomi 6 Max the manufacturer recommends avoiding such rugs, and that is where hair clings most.
- Availability. The Narwal Freo Z10 Ultra, with a bag rated for 120 days, was listed as temporarily unavailable at x-kom on 10 October 2026.
In short
With a pet, the biggest gains come from a brush that resists hair wrap and a station that empties the robot by itself. A camera that recognises pet waste belongs to the pricier end and still calls for caution. Compare suction only when the gap is large and you have carpets.
If your budget is tight and your floors are mostly panels and tiles, a simple robot with a good brush will do, such as the Roborock Q7 M5 or the Dreame D20 Pro. You just have to accept emptying the bin by hand. If your pet sheds heavily or you have rugs, pay extra for a self-emptying station; the cheapest in our catalogue with full stations are the DEEBOT mini and DEEBOT T30C Gen 2, at PLN 1,049 (≈ EUR 240) each. If your dog or cat has accidents and the robot is meant to clean while nobody is home, look for a model with stated pet-waste recognition and expect to spend from PLN 3,299 (≈ EUR 755). Other uses for robots at home are covered in “Home”.
Frequently asked questions
Which robot vacuum should I choose for a home with a dog or cat?
Look for a brush the manufacturer describes as resistant to hair wrap, a station that empties the robot automatically and, if your pet has accidents, a camera that recognises pet waste. In our catalogue only two manufacturers state the last point outright: Dreame for the X50 Ultra Complete (PLN 3,299 (≈ EUR 755)) and iRobot for the Roomba Max 775 Combo (PLN 3,399 (≈ EUR 780); prices from 10 October 2026).
Can a cheap robot cope with pet hair?
On hard floors, yes, if it has a brush designed to limit tangling. The Roborock Q7 M5 (PLN 599 (≈ EUR 135)) has a JawScrapers brush, and the Dreame D20 Pro (PLN 849 (≈ EUR 195)) a dual HyperStream brush and a 700 ml dust bin. Both come with a charging dock only, so dust and hair are emptied by hand.
Will a robot recognise dog mess and avoid it?
Only if the manufacturer says so. Dreame states pet-waste recognition for the X50 Ultra Complete, and iRobot says the PrecisionVision camera in the Roomba Max 775 Combo recognises pet messes. Image recognition is not infallible, so after an accident it is safer to clean up by hand first.
Is a station with a dust bag worth it with pets?
Yes, because hair fills a small on-board bin quickly. The Dreame L40 Ultra AE station has a 3.2 l bag that lasts about 100 days according to Dreame. That is the manufacturer's estimate; during shedding season the bag will fill faster.
How much does a robot for a pet owner cost?
At prices checked on 10 October 2026, from PLN 599 (≈ EUR 135) (Roborock Q7 M5, charging dock only). The ECOVACS DEEBOT T30C Gen 2 offers a full station that empties the bin and washes the mops, plus a ZeroTangle 3.0 brush, for PLN 1,049 (≈ EUR 240) on promotion (regular price PLN 2,149 (≈ EUR 490)). Models with stated pet-waste recognition cost from PLN 3,299 (≈ EUR 755).
