What FPV Means

FPV (first person view) means flying with the drone's camera feed shown live in goggles. FPV drones often fly in manual mode, without automatic position hold, so the pilot controls every movement. That allows smooth fly-through shots and acrobatics, but it takes practice.

The drones catalogue lists 40 FPV drones (as of 16 October 2026). 16 of them have a price from a Polish shop: from PLN 539 (≈ EUR 125) to PLN 3,349 (≈ EUR 765), with a median of PLN 1,599 (≈ EUR 365). There are three routes: a ready-to-fly training kit, an FPV drone from DJI, or a BNF drone to which you add goggles and a radio.

Route 1: Ready-to-Fly Kit with Goggles and Radio

RTF (ready to fly) kits contain the drone, goggles and a radio transmitter. Most are small drones with ducted propellers, meant for learning indoors or in the garden.

Kit Maker's weight Included Video Flight time Price (16 Oct 2026)
BetaFPV Cetus Pro FPV Kit 33.2 g without battery VR02 goggles, LiteRadio 2 SE radio analogue 4–5 min PLN 999 (≈ EUR 230) (Neonet)
BetaFPV Aquila16 FPV Kit 72.5 g with battery VR03 goggles, LiteRadio 2 SE radio (ELRS) analogue 8 min PLN 1,099 (≈ EUR 250) (x-kom)
BetaFPV Aquila20 FPV Kit 122 g take-off mass VR04 goggles, LiteRadio 4 SE radio analogue 10 min PLN 1,149 (≈ EUR 265) (Megadron)
BetaFPV Aquila20 HD FPV Kit 127 g take-off mass VR04 HD goggles, LiteRadio 4 SE radio digital ArtLynk 1080p 10 min PLN 1,599 (≈ EUR 365) (x-kom)
BetaFPV Meteor75 Pro HD FPV Kit 51.5 g VR04 HD goggles, LiteRadio 4 SE radio digital BetaFPV P1 1080p 5.5 min PLN 1,599 (≈ EUR 365) (x-kom, availability unknown)

According to BetaFPV, the Cetus Pro holds its position using an optical-flow sensor, a barometer and a laser sensor, which makes first indoor flights easier. The Aquila20 holds altitude with a barometer. The cameras on these kits only provide the live feed, so they do not record publishable video. The exception is the GEPRC TinyGO 4K FPV Whoop RTF with a Caddx Loris 4K camera, which had no priced offer at a Polish shop on 16 October 2026.

Route 2: DJI Avata 2, Avata 360 or Neo

Besides manual mode, DJI's FPV drones have modes in which the drone holds its position on its own. You can start with assisted flights and move to manual later.

  • DJI Avata 2: 377 g, class C1, 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K video at 100 fps, O4 transmission with 10 km range under the CE standard, 23 min flight time. In manual mode its speed is limited to 19 m/s in the EU. The drone alone without controller cost PLN 1,739 (≈ EUR 400) (x-kom), the Fly Smart Combo with three batteries from PLN 3,327.99 (≈ EUR 765) (Morele), and the Fly More Combo from PLN 3,899 (≈ EUR 895) (FlyStore).
  • DJI Avata 360: 455 g, class C1, two 1/1.1-inch sensors for 8K 360° video. With the DJI RC 2 controller it cost PLN 2,579 (≈ EUR 590) (Drony.net), and in the Motion Fly More Combo with DJI Goggles N3 from PLN 3,499 (≈ EUR 800) (Drony.net).
  • DJI Neo: 135 g, class C0. It can be flown from a phone; with the RC-N3 controller and goggles it uses O4 transmission. In manual mode DJI states 16 m/s. The drone alone cost PLN 740 (≈ EUR 170) (Morele), the Neo Motion Fly More Combo PLN 1,699 (≈ EUR 390) (x-kom). The DJI Neo 2 can use O4 with the optional Digital Transceiver module.

The Neo is the only one of the three under 250 g, so it requires neither the A1/A3 exam nor insurance. As C1 drones, the Avata 2 and Avata 360 require both and also broadcast Remote ID.

Route 3: A BNF Drone and Your Own Goggles

BNF drones are sold with a receiver but without goggles or radio; PNP versions also come without a receiver. This route suits those who know what gear they want. Examples of drones with a DJI O4 module and a Polish shop price: the BetaFPV Pavo20 Pro II 3S (PLN 1,849 (≈ EUR 425), Megadron), iFlight Defender 25 O4 4S HD (PLN 2,399 (≈ EUR 550), x-kom), iFlight Chimera7 Pro V2 O4 6S HD (PLN 3,199 (≈ EUR 735), x-kom) and iFlight Nazgul Evoque F7 O4 6S HD (PLN 3,349 (≈ EUR 765), x-kom). Check the listing to see whether goggles, radio and batteries are included. If not, add them to the budget.

Video Systems: Analogue, DJI O3 and O4, Other Digital

  • Analogue 5.8 GHz. The cheapest and simplest option, with a low-resolution image. 11 FPV drones in the catalogue use it. Transmitter power ranges from 25 mW in the Cetus Pro to 1,600 mW in the iFlight Nazgul Evoque F5 V2 6S Analog.
  • DJI O3. A digital module with camera, used for example in the GEPRC CineLog20 and CineLog25 V2. Five models use O3, including the original DJI Avata. Four of them are being phased out or already discontinued.
  • DJI O4. The successor to O3 and the most common system in the catalogue: 20 models, in O4, O4 Air Unit Pro and O4 Wide versions. According to iFlight, the O4 Air Unit Pro has a 1/1.3-inch sensor and a 155° field of view.
  • Other digital. BetaFPV uses its own ArtLynk and P1 systems with a 1080p image and about 60 ms latency according to the maker.
  • Walksnail. As of 16 October 2026 the catalogue has no drone with this system.

Goggle compatibility matters too. DJI goggles work with DJI modules, analogue goggles with analogue transmitters.

What an FPV Drone Is Made Of

FPV makers list components openly, so they are easier to compare than in closed camera drones.

  • Flight controller. From the STM32F411 in small drones to the STM32H743 in the GEPRC Cinebot35 O4 Pro.
  • ESCs. From 5 A in the BetaFPV Meteor75 Pro FPV Kit to 60 A in the Cinebot35, often integrated with the flight controller on one board (AIO).
  • Motors. From 1102 21000KV in the Meteor75 Pro to XING2 2809 1250KV in the Chimera7 Pro V2 and Nazgul Evoque F7.
  • Motion sensor. The TDK InvenSense ICM42688-P is named by the maker in 12 models, including every GEPRC drone in the catalogue.
  • Receiver. Usually ExpressLRS (ELRS) 2.4 GHz; some models use TBS Crossfire, FrSky D8 or DJI SBUS.
  • GNSS. An M10 module, optional on some GEPRC drones and fitted to the GPS versions of iFlight drones.

Frequently asked questions

Which FPV drone should a beginner buy?

The simplest start is a ready-to-fly kit with drone, goggles and radio, such as the BetaFPV Cetus Pro FPV Kit (PLN 999 (≈ EUR 230)), Aquila16 FPV Kit (PLN 1,099 (≈ EUR 250)) or Aquila20 FPV Kit (PLN 1,149 (≈ EUR 265)). Those who want to film straight away usually pick the DJI Avata 2 or the DJI Neo with goggles (as of 16 October 2026).

How much does an FPV drone cost?

16 of the 40 FPV drones in the catalogue have a price from a Polish shop: from PLN 539 (≈ EUR 125) (BetaFPV Pavo20 Pocket without video module) to PLN 3,349 (≈ EUR 765) (iFlight Nazgul Evoque F7 O4), median PLN 1,599 (≈ EUR 365) (as of 16 October 2026). The DJI Avata 2 without controller cost PLN 1,739 (≈ EUR 400), the Fly Smart Combo from PLN 3,327.99 (≈ EUR 765).

Analogue or digital video?

Analogue is cheaper, but the image in the goggles is low resolution. Digital systems such as DJI O3 and O4 or BetaFPV ArtLynk deliver an HD feed. In the catalogue, 11 FPV drones use analogue video, 20 use DJI O4 in its various versions, and 5 use DJI O3.

Is flying with FPV goggles legal?

Yes, but in the open category a pilot wearing goggles does not keep the drone in visual line of sight, so according to EASA an observer is needed who stands next to the pilot and watches the drone at all times. Operator registration, zones and the DroneTower check-in also apply.

Does an FPV drone need liability insurance?

If the actual take-off mass is 250 g or more, yes. For many FPV drones the maker gives the weight without battery, so what counts is the weight with the battery. The DJI Avata 2 weighs 377 g and needs insurance and the A1/A3 exam.
