Two budget quadrupeds for programmers, two quite different routes to buying one. The Unitree Go2 from Unitree Robotics can be bought in several Polish shops. The Xiaomi CyberDog 2 from Xiaomi is a second-generation robot from 2023 that interests ROS2 enthusiasts more than ordinary customers, because it has no official distribution in Poland or the European Union. We check what the numbers say for one and for the other, and what actually decides the purchase in Poland.

Design and specifications

The Go2 weighs 15 kg, carries up to 8 kg, walks at up to 3.5 m/s and has a 230 Wh battery. The CyberDog 2 is lighter (8.9 kg) and slower (1.6 m/s), and the manufacturer gives no payload in the available material. Both have 12 degrees of freedom and run about 1.5 hours on a battery.

What differs is how each robot is equipped. The Go2 has a 4D LiDAR with a 360°×96° field of view and an HD camera, voice control based on a GPT-type model and gaits trained with reinforcement learning. The CyberDog 2 bets on sensing and compute: a LiDAR, an Intel RealSense D430 depth camera, an RGB camera and 19 sensors in total, plus an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX computer (6-core CPU, 384-core GPU, 8 GB RAM, 48 GB storage) running Ubuntu 18.04 and ROS2. CyberGear micro-actuators let it do flips and get up on its own after a fall. The higher Go2 variants, the EDU, also offer a full SDK and ROS2, but cost from about USD 11,190. Ubuntu 18.04, however, is a 2018 release, which is worth considering if your team has its own tooling.

Price and availability in Poland

Starting prices are close: the Go2 Air from about USD 1,600, the CyberDog 2 in China CNY 12,999, or about USD 1,800 (about PLN 6,980 (≈ EUR 1,600)). Importers outside China add duty, so a buyer in Europe most often gets a version at USD 1,800–3,000. There is no official distribution in Poland or the EU, and buying one means importing, paying customs duty and 23% VAT, and having no local service.

The Go2 Air costs PLN 9,900–12,000 (≈ EUR 2,260–2,740) here (deltarobots.com, drony.net, Botland, x-kom), the Pro about PLN 21,400 (≈ EUR 4,900) and the EDU Standard PLN 35,900 (≈ EUR 8,210). That is roughly double the US starting price, but with an invoice and local sales. With the CyberDog 2, official support is hard to come by. Which model for which job

For a school and student clubs the Go2 is better: cheap, available, with documentation and a community, and sufficient for first programs. For first steps with code see “How to Start Learning Robotics in Poland”.

The CyberDog 2 suits a university and teams that want a rich vision platform on ROS2 and are ready to handle an import: abundant sensing and a Jetson computer leave more room for your own perception work. The manufacturers aim both robots at similar buyers: the Go2 at consumers, research, education and simple inspection, and the CyberDog 2 at programmers, hobbyists and small research projects. The realistic scenario is a lab bench, a technical show or a programming class, not shift work. If the purchase is to be a one-off with no risk, the Go2 wins on availability; if sensing matters, the CyberDog 2 pays back the trouble of importing. The camera and LiDAR collect data about people around them, so in public institutions check the rules in “Data Security: Robots with Cameras and the GDPR”.

Conclusion

The CyberDog 2 is lighter (8.9 kg versus 15 kg) and costs about $1,800 in China against $1,600 for the Go2 Air, although importing it to other regions can push its price up to $3,000 because of customs duties. The Go2 has a clearly larger payload (8 kg, while no figure is given for the CyberDog 2) and a faster gait: 3.5 m/s against 1.6 m/s. The CyberDog 2 makes up for it with extensive sensing: LiDAR, an Intel RealSense D430 depth camera, an RGB camera and 19 sensors in total, on an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX platform with 8 GB of RAM. The Go2 is genuinely available in Poland from several distributors, while the CyberDog 2 remains mainly a product of the Chinese domestic market with no confirmed local distribution. For a development team that wants a richly equipped vision platform, the CyberDog 2 has the hardware edge; for ease of purchase and support in Europe, choose the Go2.

A school, hobbyist, or university buying in Poland that needs an invoice and local support: the Go2. It is faster, has a greater payload and is easy to buy.

A team of programmers with ROS2 experience that wants a platform with richer sensing and accepts importing without local support: the CyberDog 2. Remember that without EU distribution a breakdown means service from China. If you are looking for a third option, check the DEEP Robotics Lite3. The whole category is described on the quadruped robots page, and a supplement on uses is “Quadruped Robots: Uses in Inspection, Security and Industry”.
