Summary

UBTECH's Walker S1 has gone into hands-on trials at BYD's factory and into a multi-robot deployment at Zeekr's 5G smart factory in Ningbo, where it handles sorting, material transport and precision assembly.

It is one of the few Chinese industrial humanoids with documented, real-world use at major carmakers; in this segment it competes indirectly with the Unitree G1 (cheaper, but less proven in series production) and the Fourier GR-1, though neither publishes such concrete examples of factory deployments.

The manufacturer gives the height (172 cm) and weight (76 kg), but a publicly confirmed number of degrees of freedom and walking speed are still missing; beyond these two dimensions the spec sheet remains incomplete.

The price is not public either: access is only through enterprise or government contracts, and third-party estimates (USD 50,000 to 150,000) are not a confirmed price list for the model and should not be treated as an offer. In Poland there is no information about availability or a distributor.

The Walker S1 is suited above all to large industrial plants negotiating directly with UBTECH, not to integrators looking for a ready, transparent commercial offer.

Running and deployment costs

There is no price. UBTECH publishes no price list for the Walker S1, and access is possible only under enterprise agreements or government contracts. External sources estimate the cost of humanoids in this class at USD 50,000 to 150,000, but that amount is not confirmed for this specific model, so we do not treat it as a price.

As a rough estimate: in a pilot, buying the robot is only the beginning. The bill also includes integration with the production system, workstation safety, service and operator training, and in practice also engineers' time on the customer's side. The method for calculating the whole is described in “Humanoid Robot TCO: How to Calculate Total Cost”.

Whether a pilot humanoid qualifies must be assessed by a tax adviser. For a general overview of prices in this class of robots, see “How Much Does a Humanoid Robot Cost in 2026”.

Applications

What it's for

UBTECH showed the Walker S1, a humanoid 172 cm tall, in October 2024 for work on assembly halls: carrying crates and sorting parts. According to reports, the robot went into training tasks at the BYD factory and into a multi-robot deployment at Zeekr's smart factory in Ningbo, built on 5G connectivity. The manufacturer lists three groups of applications: sorting, material transport and precision assembly.

In material transport a humanoid competes with mobile robots on price and speed; precision assembly is the hardest task, because it requires dexterous hands, force sensing and repeatability. Industrial applications: “Factories and manufacturing”.

We should be honest that the S1 deployments are pilots. The manufacturer publishes no public specification: we do not know the payload, walking speed or battery runtime. The product page that the spec sheet links to is now occupied by the successor, the Walker S2. That is why the S1 is best read as a stage in the platform's development, not as a product you can order off the shelf. The broader picture of how such robots work in industry is in “Humanoid Robots in Factories 2026”.

Typical applications

  • Sorting
  • Material transport
  • Precision assembly

Who it's for

Worth considering for: innovation departments of large automotive and electronics plants that have a pilot budget and want to watch how a humanoid copes in a production environment; institutions studying how multiple robots cooperate in one hall; teams ready to sign an enterprise agreement, because that is the only route to access.

Probably not for: a small or medium-sized company looking for an off-the-shelf robot. The manufacturer publishes no price list, and access is through enterprise or government contracts. No distributor in Poland is known either. If you need a robot to work at a machine in the coming months, it is more sensible to look at cobots, whose deployments have a documented return on investment, or at the humanoid models in the list of alternatives below. We also do not recommend the S1 for schools and universities: for teaching, robots with an open SDK and local support work better, described in “Educational robots”.

Deployments

Confirmed deployments are in China: hands-on trials at BYD's factory and a multi-robot deployment at Zeekr's smart factory in Ningbo, where the robots use the 5G network for sorting, material transport and precision assembly. We have no data on unit numbers or on the results of these pilots.

No Polish distributor is known either. In this category, the first Polish experiences concern rather Unitree robots, which can be bought locally, and renting a humanoid for events, which we cover in “Renting a Humanoid Robot for an Event”. One of the S1's customers, an automotive group, has its own profile in our overview: BYD.

Comparison

If you want an industrial humanoid from the same manufacturer, the natural choice is the UBTech Walker S2: the successor to the S1, with 52 degrees of freedom (DOF), a 15 kg payload and autonomous battery swapping in about 3 minutes, with series deliveries since November 2025.

For someone who wants a humanoid that can really be bought in Poland, the Unitree G1 is the better choice. It has a public price (about PLN 52,300 (≈ EUR 11,980 at NBP rate 4.3641 of 21 October 2026) in our listings) and Polish sellers, but it is a research and education platform, not a substitute for a line worker.

For a similar task in a logistics hall, consider the Agility Digit, a humanoid designed to carry totes in a warehouse.

If you are interested in the Western direction, look at the Apptronik Apollo, developed with factories and logistics in mind.

History

The Walker S1 was presented in October 2024 and went straight into factories. In the same month, UBTECH announced the deployment of robots for training tasks at BYD and at the smart Zeekr factory in Ningbo. In March 2025 the company showed the educational Walker Tien Kung humanoid at around USD 41,000. After the S1 came the Walker S2, launched in October 2025 with a high-torque waist and fourth-generation hands. As of 16 September 2026, deliveries of the UWORLD U1 companion humanoid to the first customers were announced, with more than 13,000 orders placed. We describe the broader context of China's push in this industry in “Chinese Humanoid Robots”.
