Asimov 1 is unusual among catalogue humanoids because you build it yourself: Menlo Research ships it as an open-hardware kit with CAD files and a bill of materials, and assembly takes about 20 hours; a pre-assembled version is available through distribution on request. The robot is 1.2 m tall and weighs 35 kg.
Its 25 powered joints are laid out as six per leg, five per arm, one at the waist and two in the neck. A 13S4P lithium-ion pack supplies the power. Motion control runs on a Radxa CM5, while a Raspberry Pi 5 handles media and networking. On board are an IMU, a monocular camera, a stereo microphone array and a speaker.
The firmware carries a whole-body locomotion policy and directional teleoperation, telemetry streams at 10 Hz, and Asimov Edge plus an SDK serve developers; full-body teleoperation and a client SDK are in development. Runtime is not stated. The kit costs USD 20,000 plus duties and shipping with a USD 499 deposit, and the order page showed batch 4 forming in October 2026.
The company has offices in Palo Alto, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City. A successor, the Asimov 2, is in progress; a similarly open-source spirit at arm scale is the SO-101.
