GENE.01 is the humanoid platform of Generative Bionics, a Genoa deep-tech start-up led by Daniele Pucci with a team drawn from the Italian Institute of Technology. Its signature feature is a full-body tactile skin that senses touch, temperature, proximity and force, intended to make close collaboration with people safe.
The robot was previewed as a concept during the AMD keynote at CES in January 2026, unveiled as a working machine on 20 July 2026, and shown in the United States at AMD's Advancing AI event a few days later. Reports describe compute built on AMD processors, graphics units and FPGA boards, while the actuators are developed with Synapticon of Germany.
Learning follows a physical-AI approach: the robot is taught by demonstration, and force data is captured alongside motion. The kinematic model has been open-sourced on PyPI, conda-forge and ROS. The first industrial use case is welding in Fincantieri shipyards, run as a pilot.
Generative Bionics has not published height, weight, payload, runtime or the number of degrees of freedom, so any figures seen elsewhere are estimates. Market entry is targeted for the second half of 2026 according to the CEO, backed by an 81 million USD seed round. Price on request. Compared with the fully specified Apptronik Apollo, the public data on GENE.01 remains thin.
