Summary

Named after gymnast Nadia Comaneci, Nadia served for several years as the flagship humanoid of IHMC in Pensacola, Florida, built together with Boardwalk Robotics after a project start in January 2019.

The robot has 29 joints and an unusual hybrid drivetrain: Moog integrated smart actuators (hydraulic) in the legs, IHMC's own electric actuators in the pelvis and series electric actuators in the arms, on a composite-material frame.

The institute never published final height or weight; a report from the project's early days only quoted design targets of 170 to 183 cm and under 90 kg, which cannot be taken as finished values. No hand is described by the maker, and the two-finger gripper mentioned in third-party listings is unconfirmed.

Nadia was conceived for disaster response, firefighting and hazardous indoor environments, funded by the Office of Naval Research, the Army Research Laboratory, NASA's Johnson Space Center and TARDEC, with Boardwalk Robotics, Morfey Ltd and H4 Labs as partners.

IHMC now lists her as a legacy platform, succeeded by the fully electric Alex, so the catalogue status is discontinued; Nadia's own page has disappeared from the institute's site. Price on request, with no public offer. Hybrid hydraulic-electric humanoids have become rare, which makes Nadia a useful reference point for researchers reading about actuator choices.
