A spherical wrist is built into the RH8D, the adult-size hand from Seed Robotics in Lisbon, and counts toward its nineteen degrees of freedom, all produced by just eight smart actuators through under-actuation. Each actuator carries a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 processor with a co-processor and reports position, speed, current and temperature.
The hand weighs 620 g and holds 2.5 kg in a vertical pull or 1 kg freely in space. A time-of-flight distance sensor sits in the palm; capacitive pads and three-axis FTS-1 or FTS-3 tactile sensors with 1 mN resolution are optional, so the standard hand has no tactile sensing.
Supply voltage ranges from 9 to 24 V. Communication uses RS-485 or TTL with the Dynamixel protocol 1.0 and 2.0, plus USB and optional Bluetooth; ROS packages, PyPot support and a URDF model are provided. Price on request, and the maker does not state the hand's length. Seed Robotics was founded in 2015 and has been based in Lisbon since 2020.
