SawBlaze

SawBlaze won the 2023 BattleBots World Championship VII with a weapon unlike the spinners around it: a hammer saw. The robot wedges under its opponent to pin it, then brings down an arm carrying a spinning disc to cut from above; disc diameter and speed have not been published. Jamison Go of Cambridge, Massachusetts, builder, captain and driver, leads a team with MIT roots formerly known as LiMITless Robotics.

The 250 lb (113.4 kg) machine uses electric drive and radio control and has competed since 2016. On its 2023 title run it beat Minotaur, Ribbot and, in the final, HUGE to claim the Giant Nut. Its career record is 25 wins and 10 losses. Team members include Aaron Fan, Ray Ma, Samantha Glassner, Shakti Shaligram, Liam Chapin, Eli Davis, Alina Granville and Jake Chesin.

Build cost is not known. The robot remains active. Saws, incidentally, are also among the weapons allowed in the Combat class of the Robotic Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, where fights take place in a closed plexiglass cage.
