No other BattleBot has flipped an opponent onto the arena ceiling: Hydra did it. The hydraulic flipper, or ‘launcher’ in league terminology, comes from Team Whyachi of Dorchester, Wisconsin, built and driven by Jake Ewert with Terry Ewert on the crew. The team has 23 years in robot combat and its earlier machine Son of Whyachi was champion in 2001.

Hydra debuted in 2019 in the 250 lb (113.4 kg) class; the drivetrain is electric and the flipping arm hydraulic, though system pressure and force are not published. Its career record is 20-7 with 12 knockouts and an 83 per cent win rate across the 2019 and 2020 seasons, and it appeared in the 2024 ‘Vegas All Stars’ special.

The official profile lists no championship titles; a win at BattleBots Champions 2021 is reported only by fan sources and is therefore omitted here. Other members are Richard ‘Dick’ Stuplich, Rachel Stuplich-Trantow and Trevor Trantow. Status: active. For a cutting rather than lifting approach to the same weight class, see SawBlaze.
