Summary

One of the first electric 6x6 UGVs to move from trade-show floors into regular army service: the Multi-Purpose UGV derived from Hyundai Rotem's HR-Sherpa was delivered to the Republic of Korea Army in 2022. The HR-Sherpa itself debuted in October 2019 at Korea's Armed Forces Day and appeared at UMEX in Abu Dhabi in 2020.

In combat configuration it weighs 1,800 kg including a 600 kg payload (Janes and Army Recognition; Asian Military Review gives 1,600 kg empty and 400 kg payload for the base model), measures 270 by 170 by 90 cm and reaches 40 km/h on roads and 10 km/h off-road, running 6 h at a 5 km/h cruise. Airless tyres shrug off punctures and the drivetrain lets the vehicle turn on the spot.

Control is remote with follow-me and autonomous modes. Roles are fire support, logistics, medical evacuation and site security; the armed variant carries a remote weapon system from Hyundai Wia, while the base vehicle is unarmed. Sensors are not itemised by the maker and pricing is on request.

Hyundai Rotem also partners with Rainbow Robotics on a counter-terrorism quadruped, the Rainbow Robotics RBQ. Its Korean 6x6 rival is the Arion-SMET, and the Czech TAROS V4 6x6 offers similar weight and payload in Europe.
