Summary

The first foreign ground robot to complete a US Foreign Comparative Test: between 14 and 22 December 2023 the US Marine Corps evaluated the Arion-SMET in Hawaii. Hanwha Aerospace's all-electric 6x6 weighs 2,000 kg, carries 550 kg, reaches 43 km/h on roads and 22 km/h cross-country (Defense Post says 34 km/h) and has a 100 km range.

Its autonomy suite covers unmanned off-road driving, waypoints, following a soldier or vehicle, tether following and automatic return when the link is lost. A distinctive sensor is gunshot localisation, which points to the source of incoming fire; in the armed variant an optional 5.56 mm remote weapon station, expandable to 7.62 mm, can automatically track that source.

Core tasks are load carrying and casualty transport. Presented in 2022, the vehicle is being developed for the Republic of Korea Army and is offered for the US Army's S-MET Increment II by Anduril and Hanwha Defense USA with Forterra autonomy – Anduril has no ground vehicle of its own. Status is pilot, pricing on request, dimensions unpublished.

Its S-MET rivals are the Hunter WOLF and the S-MET; Korea's other 6x6 in this class is the HR-Sherpa.
