  • VerdictA tech demo for anyone curious about teleoperation; not for someone who needs a robot that works.

Summary

After ending the ASIMO program in 2022, Honda redirected its humanoid work toward teleoperation, and the Honda Avatar Robot is the result, shown publicly at Humanoids Summit 2026. Instead of autonomy, the robot offers remote control: a 16-joint, four-finger hand on a cable drive (11 motors in the forearm) delivers more than five times the grip force of ASIMO's hand, and the operator controls it through an interface with eye tracking and tension sensors, supported by an algorithm that estimates the intended grasp from eye and hand movement.

The application targets remote work in hazardous or hard-to-reach environments, not warehouse or factory tasks like the HMND 01 or ergoCub, which are developing autonomous locomotion. That is the fundamental difference: the Honda Avatar Robot does not walk and does not act on its own; it is an extension of the operator's hands.

Its strength is the precision and force of manipulation that comes from decades of engineering experience with ASIMO; its weakness is the absence of any commercial product, market launch date or price. The project remains a technology demonstration from a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TYO:7267), and it is not for sale in Poland or anywhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Honda Avatar Robot available in Poland?

No. The Honda Avatar Robot is a prototype or research platform with no commercial offer in Poland; any sale would be announced by the manufacturer (Japan).

Does the Honda Avatar Robot move on its own?

No. It is fully teleoperated: an operator controls it remotely, and the robot does not act autonomously.

How strong is the Honda Avatar Robot's grip?

More than five times stronger than ASIMO's hand, thanks to a 16-joint hand with 11 motors in the forearm.

When will the Honda Avatar Robot go on sale?

No date or price has been announced. It is still a technology demonstration, not a commercial product.
