Summary

Built to survive months of unattended trial-and-error learning, the DEX-EE from Britain's Shadow Robot Company was developed together with Google DeepMind. It has three identical fingers and no thumb, twelve degrees of freedom, a length of 350 mm and a weight of 4.1 kg; motors sit in the base and move the fingers through tendons.

Sensing is the headline feature: each fingertip carries an optical stereo camera reading hundreds of taxels, the middle and proximal phalanges have three-axis tactile sensors, and position, force, torque and an IMU complete the set. The hand is fully integrated with ROS. Payload, grip force, supply voltage and motor count are not published by the maker.

Besides the standard version there is a DEX-EE Chiral in left, right or paired form. Price on request. It is a very different animal from the same company's humanoid Shadow Dexterous Hand with four fingers and a thumb, and from fingertip-array hands such as SharpaWave, which pursue high-resolution touch inside a human-shaped five-finger layout.
