A 25 kW turbine rather than a plain nozzle is what sets the TAF20 apart: the South Tyrolean maker EmiControls (TechnoAlpin group) built it as a turbine-aided firefighting robot, and Magirus marketed it as the AirCore TAF20. The figures here come from a Magirus datasheet hosted on a third-party server, since EmiControls today lists only the TAF35 and TAF60.
With a gross weight of 3.8 t, the tracked vehicle runs on a water-cooled 65 hp diesel with a 75-litre tank in two speed ranges (0–3.6 and 0–9 km/h) for 5 to 7 hours. The turbine atomises up to 1,500 l/min into mist thrown about 60 m, while the monitor delivers up to 3,500 l/min about 80 m at up to 16 bar; the 60,000 m³/h airflow can also ventilate tunnels through a duct connection.
Water, foam, retardant and gel are all usable; a front blade is standard, while a rail chassis, winch and FLIR or colour cameras with WLAN video are options. Radio control with a graphic display works to 500 m, gradeability is 58 percent (30 degrees), side slope 27 percent, noise 84 dB(A) at 10 m. Pricing is on request.
Its successor, the TAF35, raised monitor flow to 4,700 l/min on the same turbine, which is why the TAF20 now serves mainly as the reference point for the whole turbine family.
