At 1,500 USD shipped, the CR Hand from Curious Robotics in Chiba, Japan, led by Hiroshi Yamaura, is one of the cheapest human-sized five-finger hands on the market and has gone to schools, universities and cobot users since 2025.
The hand is FDM 3D-printed, measures 172 mm from wrist to fingertip and weighs only 326 g. Six servo motors move thirteen joints fitted with springs that cushion collisions; the maximum motor force per finger is 18 N. There are no sensors, but the fingertips are held by M2 screws and can be swapped for custom tips carrying the user's own sensors.
Control runs over USB 2.0 with a Mini-B connector through a built-in Pololu Micro Maestro, which also offers serial communication; a 6 V adapter supplies power, and programming is done in the Pololu Maestro Control Center on Windows or Linux, in Python or in Processing. The ISO 9409-1-50-4-M6 flange fits Universal Robots and Techman arms such as the UR5e or the Techman TM5-900.
No load rating is published. The maker's website quoted 1,500 USD including shipping in October 2026, customs duties to be paid by the buyer, with delivery two to four weeks after payment; the September 2025 press release still spoke of 2,000 USD.
