More than 4,000 delivered since 2002 make the PackBot the most numerous military EOD robot ever built, and a quick-reaction tool a single soldier can carry in a backpack and deploy in under two minutes. Today's version, the PackBot 525 from Teledyne FLIR Defense (formerly iRobot Defense and Endeavor Robotics), serves with the US Army, Marines and Navy and with the German Bundeswehr.
It weighs 26.3 kg without batteries (57.9 lb per Army Technology and the Adorama listing), stands 52 cm tall and rides on tracks with flippers that climb stairs. The manipulator lifts 20 kg close to the chassis and about 5 kg at full extension; cameras sit on the gripper, mast and chassis. Payload modules add CBRN sensors, a disruptor and extra cameras, all controlled by radio from a hand-held unit.
The PackBot is unarmed and has no armed variants. It is on sale with pricing on request, and the full datasheet is only available after a web form. The 2002 service start (Afghanistan) comes from general knowledge rather than the listed sources.
Poland's man-portable equivalent is the 48 kg PIAP GRYF with a 15 kg manipulator, while the same factory supplies the medium Centaur that the US Army buys by the hundreds.
