This Israeli-American company, based in Ramat Gan and founded in 2015, created ElliQ, a voice-driven AI companion for older adults with proactive conversation, medication reminders, wellbeing monitoring and video calls with family. It is sold exclusively direct, as a subscription, with no retail intermediaries.

In the senior-companion segment ElliQ competes less with classic toy robots than with smart speakers offering care features, because it has no mobile body: it is a stationary device with a movable head. No distribution in the European Union or Poland has been confirmed, so for Polish buyers the product remains unavailable for now short of individual import.

Figures on funding and headcount are not publicly disclosed by the company.

History and development

Intuition Robotics is an Israeli-American company based in Ramat Gan, founded in 2015. Its most important product is ElliQ, a voice companion based on artificial intelligence, aimed at older people. It was announced in 2018 and went on sale in March 2022. The device holds a proactive conversation, reminds users about medication, monitors well-being and enables video calls with family. The sales model is direct only, as a subscription, with no retail intermediaries, which sets it apart from typical consumer hardware. The sources we reached contain no data on funding or headcount, and the manufacturer does not publish them, so we enter no figures. The company’s history is therefore the history of one consistently developed product aimed at a narrow but growing group of users. Whether the subscription model works can be judged only once results are published, and we have not seen any. The idea is simple: instead of an alarm system or an app, an older person gets a device that initiates contact, asks questions and remembers what to remind them of.

Portfolio

The portfolio in our coverage is one model: ElliQ, classified as a medical and care robot and close in theme to home robots. ElliQ has no mobile body — it is a stationary device with a movable “head” that stands on a table or shelf. Its functions include medication reminders, companionship, well-being assessment and contact with family. The price is unclear: sources give conflicting information. The device is said to cost from 250 to 600 USD, and the subscription from about 360 to 1,000 USD a year or about 40 USD a month, depending on the source. The official website does not give an unambiguous unit price, so the exact current price is unverified. It is also worth remembering that a device with a microphone and camera in a senior’s home raises questions about data, which we discuss in “Data Security: Robots with Cameras and the GDPR”. The contradictory data stem from different sources and versions of the offer: some refer to the sale of the device, some to the subscription, and some combine both costs. Because there is no single official price, any amount quoted in the media is only an estimate. The manufacturer also publishes no generally available datasheet with technical parameters, so we do not know the dimensions or weight.

Market position

In the segment of companion robots for seniors, ElliQ competes more with smart speakers that have a care function than with classic toy robots, because it has no mobile body. It differs from next-generation home robots such as NEO from 1X Technologies, which are meant to do physical chores in the home. ElliQ talks and reminds, but it will not carry anything. The closest counterpart in our catalog is Moxie from Embodied, also a companion robot, along with the classic conversational robot Pepper from SoftBank Robotics. We give no market share, because there is no public data on the number of users. You can read about other robots meant to help at home in the home robots category. Its advantage is focus on one narrow need, its weakness dependence on a subscription.

Presence in Poland

No distribution of ElliQ in the European Union or in Poland has been confirmed. For a Polish buyer the product is therefore unavailable for now, unless someone chooses individual import, with all the consequences for warranty, language of operation and regulatory compliance. We also do not know whether the service works in Polish. Families seeking support for older relatives can look at the home section, where we describe available solutions, and the risks of devices with cameras are covered in “Data Security: Robots with Cameras and the GDPR”.

Editorial verdict

ElliQ is an interesting idea for a senior’s companion, but it is unavailable in Poland and the price is unclear. Until an official distributor appears, treat it as a product from abroad, not as a purchase option. Even if the device were available, the choice should be preceded by a conversation with the senior, because an AI companion is useful only if the user wants to talk to it. Polish families must for now look for other forms of support.
