Handroid is an open academic project run jointly by UNC Chapel Hill and Stanford University rather than a company. Its authors, including Li, Ma, Wei, Yao, Shi, Liu, Song and Ding, published a paper on arXiv in July 2026 describing the fully 3D-printed Handroid, a robot that works both as an anthropomorphic hand and as a small humanoid.

The design is released under the MIT licence with Onshape CAD and a bill of materials, while code and documentation are still being prepared. The audience is universities and labs building their own research platforms.
