Summary

The bebionic Hand EQD, catalogue number 8E70, is Ottobock's multi-articulating myoelectric prosthesis rather than a robot hand; it appears here as a reference point for bionic design. Each of the five fingers has its own motor with proportional speed control, five drives in all; the maker gives no degree-of-freedom count.

Users choose from 14 grip patterns and hand positions, up to 8 of which can be programmed at once, and the thumb uses a mechanism Ottobock calls the Mechanical Smart Thumb. Tripod grip force is 36 N and lateral key grip 26 N; static limits are 32 N per finger, 44 N across the fingers, 40 N on the thumb, 40 N when carrying with a closed hand and 500 N for the chassis. The opening width is 75 mm.

Weight depends on size and wrist: 433 g small and 616 g medium with the EQD wrist, about 402 and 588 g with the short wrist 8E71, about 504 and 689 g with the flexion wrist 8E72. Two sizes and three wrist options are offered, together with Bluetooth and Myo Plus pattern recognition; a battery lasts about a day and the service life is five years, with fingers replaceable individually.

It is supplied only through prosthetists, so the price is on request. Ottobock's other prosthesis in this catalogue is the Michelangelo Hand, and i-Limb Quantum is the closest competitor.
