University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a public US university whose team, together with UC Irvine, developed the open-source CRAFT Hand. The authors are Lin, Patel, Moon, Lazebnik and Jain, and the work was presented at RSS 2026 after a March 2026 preprint.

The hand combines rigid PLA links with soft TPU rolling-contact joints, is driven by fifteen Dynamixel servos behind the wrist and costs under 600 USD in parts. Model files, an API and 3D-printing instructions are public, and ROBOTIS markets a ready-made bundle.
