Lerrel Pinto's robotics group at New York University works on robot learning from data and presented the open-source tendon hand RUKA at RSS 2025. The design deliberately has no joint sensors: the relationships between motors and finger positions are learned from MANUS glove data, and the hand is built from 3D-printed parts and off-the-shelf servos for under USD 1,300.
The repository is MIT-licensed, the paper CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. The university does not sell the hand; the project site ruka-hand.github.io holds the documentation for building it.
