MMLab, The University of Hong Kong (HKU)

MMLab is a research laboratory at the University of Hong Kong led by Ping Luo and Hongyang Li and known for work on multimodal models. In April 2026 the team published the fully open-source MM-Hand 1.0, a hand with 21 independently actuated joints, motors outside the hand with Bowden-sheathed tendons, fifteen tactile sensors, angle and tension sensors at every joint and two palm cameras.

The lab estimates the material cost at about USD 1,400 and runs a pre-order form. The laboratory belongs to the University of Hong Kong and hosts the project at mmlab.hk.
